hi y'all nicky here back with another nicky tune (:
i made this tune yesterday (5/6/22) and worked on it on & off all day. i'm done with classes for the semester so i had time to chill and just make some tunes. this one is called "3am" (originally titled "dirty" 😏) bc the nite b4 last nite i was up till 3 talking 2 my pals... which i dont regret but i was SOOO tired.

i started this song intentionally making everything super compressed + normalized and it goes kinda hard. but then i realized that the crazy compression sounds kinda like how my head feels when im super tired. like my thoughts are all over the place and i have a weird headache + sickness. but even amidst my fatigue im happy with this tune it was just rly fun and the slap bass and cheesy synth lead are my fav parts. also da snare. sounds kind of like an @remi-wolf or @jpegmafia type beat almost......................

im doing alright today (: still tired but not bad. hope u have a good one 2!

hello!

welcome back 2 nicky tunez. this is a mashup + remix of humble by kendrick lamar and the trophy gallery theme from super smash bros brawl. i made this my freshman year of college (10/4/2019) bc one day i woke up and the idea just came to me i guess LOL. at the time i was working on a new tradition in october where i would try to make a beat everyday and this is what came out! i actually love a lot of the tunes i made in october 2019, and jack-o'-lantern from artemis was made in that time period as well! i think at least TRYING to make something everyday helped me improve a lot as a producer, both in terms of output and getting better/faster at key skills. 

atm i have covid (😔😔😔) and have had to quarantine for around 6 days now. i dont mind the quarantine aspect tbh (i had to quarantine for 2 weeks last spring bc my roommate got covid and it was a rly interesting experience!), but i had to moveout of my current house while having covid and couldnt hang w any of my buddies for the last few days we all lived there ): luckily moveout came and went and i dont feel sick anymore. today is my last day of quarantine actually and i should b good! more than anything im just happy i get to see my friends again. admittedly i'm nervous for this summer, though. i dont have housing next year and am looking for jobs which is stressful + being stuck in my hometown for 3 months could b rly bad; i just hope i get to see my friends a lot and that we get to make some good memories (:

this tune (project file named 'ottrap' bc there is a lot of ott) was made on 6/13/2022. not a lot 2 say abt it but i liked it a lot! the triplet hihats r a lot of fun and i think the mix isnt half bad.

i originally made this as a potential soundtrack 4 a project jack and i are working on but it's not rly the vibe we're going 4. 

in other news i am working a lot and it's lowkey fun! 4 days a week and my coworkers r all very sweet and cool ppl. so ya (: nothing else 2 say.. just working and hanging w pals. doesnt feel like summer yet but it WILL soon.

long time no see!

welcome back 2 nicky tunez (: "pool party!" is a tune i made on july 5th (7/5/2022) just for funsies. no album, no free range ost, just a classic synthpop/future bass (?) type track!

i was inspired to make this one after listening to an old song i made called "cool thing" (that was just the name of the project file, not the actual title lol. i never finished or released it). i was just going thru old songs and it inspired me to revisit the fun, happy synth style of the late 2010s. i realized i hadn't really made happy or fun music in a long time, so it was a really refreshing return to form i guess (': I also made sure to add all the hallmarks/tropes/stereotypes of a synthpop track, like the dusty piano prechorus, big filtered risers and buildups, and a low-end drop out halfway thru the chorus. i feel like i succeeded in making a summer pop tune!

in other news i am just working still. it's nothing INSANE and we've actually been a little bored recently, but i'm currently cherishing the strange and silly times i share with my coworkers. it is honestly great getting to kno them and i'm somehow rly glad i'm a janitor LOL. i also realized the other day that i'm incredibly anxious for my summer chemistry class to start which is stinky binky. it makes me feel super out of it on top of being tired like every day... i'm hoping once the class begins i'll settle back into normal thinking and a regular heartbeat. i must stay hopeful!

one more thing: i am rlly happy with my output recently! i've been making much more music than i've made in the past two years and it's all pretty decent! i can feel myself improving and am hoping that this period of inspiration will stick around. even though i'm tired a lot, i find that i'm less afraid of creating and speaking my mind now, more than ever! i feel like a lot is changing and twisting around me in my life but i think that's a good thing? like once everything settles down and i can find my footing things will be better than before. that is my hope. also i'm working on album (:

pool party!

happy 7/11! i made this beat today and i rly like it (: i've been inspired by a lot of the new bounce stuff on sc recently (specifically @blorba and @wntrgwde) so i decided to make this track! 

i had a lot of fun destroying the bass and just limiting and clipping the crap out of everything. i think pushing my music to different extremes will help me get a good sense of balance in a mix and just how far i can go with stylistic/experimental elements of my tunes, if that makes sense.

in other news not much has changed since i uploaded yesterday (LOL pls check out pool party). i started a summer chemistry class to finish college early which i'm not excited 4 but it doesn't seem like a crazy workload... i just need to pay attention and have good time mgmt skills. ive also been trying to "ground" myself and be present today and yesterday. johny told me about this grounding exercise where you just walk around in the grass in your bare feet. i think it's a great way of interacting with nature and of being in the moment, it's been really nice these past two days.

hi welcome back 2 nicky tunez. i am tired and stuff but i made this beat today and it was fun! i haven't gotten to work on music for a while since i've been working a lot and taking summer chem. but i made this beat today (while procrastinating studying for a chemistry exam (': ) and i think it's a banger. vocals are from kiss of life by sade, which i've been obsessed w recently. it's so cheesy but her voice is SO good.

in other news i am quite stuck on me album... idk where to go and i still have a few more trax i wanna maek. it's hard to just pick it up again when i havent been working on it at ALL, especially when the expectation to make something with my BEST EFFORT and skillz and everything is on the line. THAT plus i feel like i've been improving so rapidly this summer that each song i make tends to get outdated by the time it's finished. which is good and bad. no matter what i am excited for my album tho! i'm expecting a december/january release date at the current pace, but hopefully sooner (:

IRL im doing ok. most days have big ups and downs and it's pretty annoying not having energy or time to do waht i rly want to do. im just in my house a lot when im not working so that sux. but i hope to try and finish the summer strong (which involves getting more sleep)!

hi y'all, nicky tunes back w another tune (:

it's been a while but i have been VERY busy and also not busy at all with a lot of things... but the track first. this is a french house tune i made for fun a few days ago (9/1/2022) (: this genre was a STAPLE of my listening throughout middle school and high school and has seriously shaped my music taste. Justice and SebastiAn were huge inspirations to me getting into music production and i wanted to make french house my first few years of production (and failed a lot bc it is a hard genre to produce when u dont rly use compression lol). it's been rly fun revisiting it like 4-5 years later though and i love how it turned out! loads of compression and OTT rly brought the track to life and i feel like that's been the key to pushing my tracks and my style to its limits.

in other news, i finished my job a week ago and i am sad ): i miss my buddies but i ALSO don't miss getting up at 7 and moving tables all day (i guess. it wasnt that bad). but i made some wonderful wonderful friends this summer and i am thinking of them every day <3

which is the other thing; i moved into my dorm TODAY! senior year (: my roommate seems nice and while i am exhausted and anxious, i'm excited for this year. it should be good. but that means i had to say goodbye to jack and my siblings which is hard... ya. this past week has just been hard in general. sleep has been really difficult and i can feel myself slinking bakc into covid habits. but hopefully that ends since im on campus now and will be walking around and talking to a lot of people everyday. but we will see.

i'm nervous but hopeful for the future.and my album is a little stuck but it becomes more complete to me everyday (:

long time no see!

it has been a while since i uploaded here but i have been SOOO busy with schoolwork and havent had a lot of time for music, including my album ): while all the songs i do have are basically done (mixed + mastered, just need a little polishing (also 8 trax!)), i want 9 tracks because i need one for narrative reasons. but for whatever reason track 4 just isnt coming to me at ALL. 

in a lot of ways, it's just the fear of coming back to music and being bad. and in others, it's because i'm  too busy (and otherwise too tired) to have the consistent work ethic which lets me make music at my highest level. these are also excuses because it's mostly fear, but they're factors, too. idk! it's just challenging and i know i need to just make more music and find that last idea but i've been struggling a lot with it, which is partially why i uploaded this beat LOL

this one is from the summer. i made it on 7/4/2022 and basically jsut touched it up/mastered i think within the week. ive just been holding it as a contender for the album, but having listened to it today i figured it doesn't fit and isn't really up to the standards i hold myself to now (which are constantly moving upwards. good and bad thing!).  but it's a fun one! just some burial, future garage style stuff and playing with/studying more texture and compression.

also thanks johny for the title. you said it would be named chicago and chicago it is. i get what you mean.

welcome back to nicky tunez. this is a track called salamander ive been working on since i got home from school (12/17 - 12/25). it will likely never be finished but it's been a fun experiment and good practice as always! i rly like the jungle section and was trying to experiment with water sounds/water bass.

i havent made one of these in a while bc of school and album stuff but those are both done now! i graduated college (which is crazy) and Poison in the Garden releases on 1/6/2023 (((: i'm so glad it's done, it's definitely my favorite thing ive ever made and is by far my most personal and emotional project. i'll have more to say when it comes out but ya. life is kinda NUTS rn!!! :PPPPP

in other news im super tired i just havent been able to sleep at all, and i have literally nothing to do now but search for a job and decide when i want to move in to my house in boston w my friends. the future is scary rn bc it's a little uncertain but i'll have such a great network/community of friends in boston so we'll see what happens! i'm a little too tired to think about anything atm but i'm usually hopeful. i think the new year will be good and although things are harder rn than they've been the past few months i know they'll improve. i just need some rest (:

HIIII
long time no see! it's been about 3.5 months since my last upload but it's because a lot has happened in my life... the song first though! I made this one roughly two weeks ago in a few days; originally titled oblivion (inspired by @andrewismusic) i set out to make a weird beat in 9/4 but ended up going all sorts of directions. my music is best when i'm not afraid to just follow my intuition and really work on ideas i usually stray away from. i tend to make excuses ESPECIALLY when it comes to imitating genres with real instruments, so the soul section of this track is a proud moment for me. the whole thing was just so much fun to work on and that's what matters... relearning to love the process of producing is something i feel like i do every week, so it can be kind of exhausting, and yet it is always so deeply satisfying to work through. OH AND OF COURSE THE WATER SECTION THAT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING!!! i'm so happy with how it's turned out, this track is EASILY my best in terms of mixing and sound design even if it's a bit goofy (:

in terms of life a lot has happened! it's been kind of a whirlwind moving to boston, being with gracie, hanging with my friends and more. trying to find a job has been really challenging, and i've def had a lot existential questions weighing on me regarding my nose, eyes, future, and general lack of energy... but i'm taking it one step at a time and not letting those things get in the way of enjoying where i'm at and what i'm capable of right now. while i want a lot of long term improvements right now, i'm doing so much better than i was a year ago and that's what matters. i wish i could be more specific but it's simply too much to fit the last 3 months of my life (which have been beautiful and crazy and weird) into one song... i should upload more often!

i have a backlog of small tunes to upload here, most of them in the same vein as this one, and nothing i feel super attached to conceptually... but i'm continuing to improve a lot as a producer and i'm having fun with it. that's what matters most!
