This month's program opens with words from Juliano Mer Khamis, renowned Palestinian actor and director who founded The Freedom Theatre in the Jenin refugee camp (@thefreedomtheatre). 

Khamis embodies the role of the artist in resistance and revolution. He bravely opposed occupation and repression by using his craft for collective liberation, until his assassination in 2011. Thanks to the dedicated archival research of Majazz Project / Palestinian Sound Archive (@majazzproject), these enriching audio resources are made available.

Listen in for an energetic and thoughtfully assembled set that is mixed to balance the anger we are feeling with a steady beat, Arabic scales, recharging soundscapes, and chaotic joy.

Jas Nasty (she/her) is an eclectic vinyl DJ that draws from various musical eras and genres from disco to UKG to techno, and loves to spin bass heavy electronic music.

Jas has been involved in radio and various DJ events in Ottawa and Montreal since 2001.
Now in Ottawa, she continues to DJ events and fill the airwaves with her love of collecting and sharing good music, old and new, on her radio show Heavy Friends on CKCU 93.1 FM .

Tidal Zone w/ Jas Nasty & Nicky 6/10/24

December's Tidal Zone begins with a recording from Pique in Ottawa this past September, organized by Debaser on the Club SAW lawn. 

The performance is a live ambient deep listening project in collaboration with the incredible Palestinian DJ LOUGI3N, a sonic conversation in which LOUGI3N plays distorted traditional Palestinian sounds, which I framed using a curated ambient soundscape. 

We performed seated, and we invited guests to sit on blankets and pillows on the lawn with us, to take the time to reflect, recharge, and heal.

The rest of the mix is a variety of ambient, experimental, and introspective sounds. I hope you enjoy.
