As soon as we hit play on this new jam our hairstyles spontaneously bloomed into glorious afros and we all of a sudden knew how to do the funky chicken. Guess that’s just the effect The Sponges have on mere mortals.

Funkier than an episode of Seinfeld, Jerry Brain is absolutely jam packed with The Sponges signature cuts, synths, funky fills and cheeky samples. Energy’s at an all-time high on this one as the funky wunderkinds Nik and Ryan whip out the guitar, strutting through what has got to be the funkiest breakdown of all time.

It's amazing to have the duo back with the BOC fam. To be honest we here at BOC needed a break from them what with all the heat they’ve been delivering to us here at the label. We agreed to see other people for a while, but we just couldn’t stay away.

It’s time to rekindle this magical relationship, and Jerry Brain might truly be what brings us back together.

When was ‘The Funk' born? Some say it was the romans, some say it was James Brown but the truth is it was The Sponges. Just being in their very presence you can feel the funk emitted from their skin. The Sponges are no strangers to Box of Cats with a string of heavy hitting releases like Space Funk ’75, Funked Up and Make It Juicy. Each release, chart topping records and with good reason. They got The Funk! 

Today we bring you the first track off their mini-album, Do You Wanna? If you have seen the boys live In the past 12 months, you have for sure heard this one! Deeply threaded with funky guitar, infectious bass-lines and cheeky samples, Do You Wanna? is yet another example of how these two remain untouchable as producers and party starters.

What began as a private message from a humble duo with 5 followers has now blossomed into a massive artist project. Selling out shows around the US, writing huge records with the likes of Ultra Natè, GRiZ and Kyle Watson, multiple Beatport chart topping records and now their first official EP 'Love. Death. Funk?'. We are SO proud to be able to bring this to you through Box of Cats. 

This is more than just new music to us. We have nurtured these guys since day 1 and have become best friends. Countless phone calls, a zillion emails - even a few complaints about their lack of press photos - BUT this is who they are and we wouldn't want them any other way. 

Love. Death. Funk? is exactly as you think it is. It's the start of a new relationship and the end of an old one. It's moving into a new house while saying goodbye to your home. It's arriving at the festival vs passing out at the after party. You may ask what does Funk? have to do with any of this?? Well to be completely honest, we have no idea. But our guess is that the Funk? is the glue that shticks this all together. It's the fabric between our toes and what stops us from breaking apart. The Funk? is what keeps us alive!
