‘Surfaces’ marks a defining moment for South African producer Vertic, one half of the acclaimed duo Deep Narratives, known for hits like ‘Insimbi’ with Culoe De Song and Zvri, and ‘Yaze Yamnandi’ with Argento Dust and Okmalumkoolkat. While continuing his journey with Deep Narratives, Vertic now begins to carve a parallel path as a solo artist — a move that showcases his individual creative voice while staying true to the duo’s shared vision.

The title track, ‘Surfaces’, captures a moment of personal and artistic rebirth. Written during a period of reflection, it symbolizes Vertic’s evolution — a new surface, a refined sound, and a renewed sense of direction. Like A Sun, the three-track collaboration between Friso and Deepesh Sharma, radiates a balance of groove, melody, and emotion.
The title cut, "Like A Sun," rises with glowing synth textures and tender chords, its ascent illuminated by accents that glisten like constellations. Ethereal vocals float through its progression, swelling into poignant harmonies and enveloping resonance. Each layer unfolds with dreamlike fluidity, balancing solemn reflection with hopeful vitality.
"The One," the duo set robust drumlines against airy vocal traces and playful synth flourishes, blending retro-futurist charm with organic warmth. Catchy in its cadence yet lifted by breezy, wind-like elements, the track feels both astral and grounded. Closing with "93," the EP finds its pulse in syncopated percussion and sultry tonalities, a groove that draws the body into motion with understated seduction. Beneath its rhythm is a wistful edge, where melodic inflections lend gentle nostalgia. Spanning three tracks, the EP closes in afterglow, casting a lingering shimmer that continues to move through the body.
