Berlin’s beloved @budakid returns to Disco Halal for his second offering with ‘If Chickens Could Talk’. As enigmatic and enthralling as the title would suggest, the artist creates his own psychedelic escape for the dance floor. Drawing on a love of acoustic, floating melodies, both ‘If Chickens Could Talk’ and ‘Over Not Over’ pull you in with addictive synths, whilst the pulsating riffs guide the listener into a dreamy head space. At points the EP appears ambient and at others completely euphoric, it’s the perfect display of Budakid’s unique take on dance music and one that knows no limit.

On the creative thought process behind ‘If Chickens Could Talk’, Budakid states: "Living in a world where we have the illusion of doing the right thing. But what if chickens could talk and tell us we're doing something completely wrong." That quote sums up the weird and wonderful nature of this EP - born out of an alternative outlook on our lifestyle, the artist questions the world we live in through the power of electronic music.

In recent years Budakid has made quite the name for himself thanks to a slew of releases on DIYnamic, Exploited and Last Night On Earth. His last venture with Disco Halal came last year, with the EP ‘Ochre Tuesday’ that took us on a journey through his universe, and we couldn’t get enough. It encapsulated the anything goes mentality that the label encompasses and both ‘If Chickens Could Talk’ and ‘Ochre Tuesday’ will feature on a 12” vinyl, featuring both original artworks made by the artist himself. With these impressive collections of tracks coming so early in his career, nothing stops Budakid from becoming one of the greats.

Cameo Blush was named one of Mixmag’s ‘Top 25 Artists to Watch’ last year and is currently on a trajectory to really break through. He has dropped his euphoric, rave-ready productions on Ross From Friends’ label Scarlet Tiger, Seb Wildblood’s all my thoughts and Nick Höppner’s Touch From A Distance as well as serving up his live show at London hotspots Phonox and E1. He shows his love of all things UK again here in an EP full of stylistic surprises, which include his first foray into working with vocalists and a sidestep outside of conventional club structures. 'Ultimate Grey' sets the scene with heavenly chords with chopped-up vocals and melancholic synth work. 'Out There' follows with a half-time, dubbed out rhythm and features yunè pinku, who brings a heartfelt vocal hanging above the percolating breaks, and the fantastic 'Verbatim' continue with a driving garage-tinged groove with shuffling drums, shimmering vocals, and celestial chords, and has already seen support from Bicep. 'Millennium Fields' features Melbourne's Pretty Girl, a vocalist and producer who has recently appeared on Boiler Room and warmed up for Bonobo. It's a melodically bright and uplifting track with synth crescendos, woody drums, and drifting vocals. 'Life After' closes the release with another elegant synthscape underpinned by booming bass, deft lines, and human voices that give it a futuristic and emotional feel. “I was sitting on ‘Verbatim’ for a long time as a demo. It clicked when I realised that I wanted the melody lines and vocals to meld together, I think it gives the feeling it’s constantly morphing and developing. I always want to make my tunes a kind of story or let them develop naturally as I write them- I think this is how you get the most exciting results creatively. It was so crazy to see the videos of Bicep playing it at the Printworks closing, I never thought I'd write something that could stand on its own in such a huge space.” - Cameo Blush. Bondage-Music head honchos Pornbugs prep the labels next release for early April comprising three original tracks and a remix from Mihai Popoviciu. Since 2006, German duo Pornbugs have been pushing their minimal yet ambitious dance floor orientated house music through clubs across the globe, with their label Bondage-Music acting as a catalyst for forward thinking music. Bondage-Music also works as an outlet for other talented producers including Romania’s Mihai Popoviciu and inmotion music signee Markus Homm to further develop their sound. Fresh from a string of early 2017 digital releases from Frink and Sous Sol, April sees Bondage-Music’s first vinyl offering of the year, kick started with the subtle and melodic cut “When You Are gone“, which takes a deep groove and laces it with a plethora of soft synths and atmospherics. Mihai Popoviciu then reworks “When You Are gone“ into a different entity, rewiring a headier groove into the track with raw-defined hats, building further tension with tight synth stabs and ethereal pads. Vinyl Only Track “Innocent“ then takes tribal tinged percussion to new depths, fuelling it with booming kicks and flourishing chords, further intensified by swirling vocals. A pure dub aesthetic then shines through “Maritza“, as saturated drums and a rumbling low end provide the skeleton for swelling synths to meander alongside spiritual vocals, closing out the package.
