Debuted during Mobilee’s famed off-Sonar week to a frenzied response, French producer/live act Rodriguez Jr. delivers his first highly anticipated EP of 2015.

A renowned perfectionist, Rodriguez Jr. (AKA Olivier Mateu) has been honing his craft for 20 years. It stretches back to the Atari computer and keyboards that dominated his early production experiences, to the years spent disseminating superb on-point electronica as one half of The Youngsters on Laurent Garnier’s seminal F Communications imprint, right up until today when the artists works tirelessly to experiment with his machines in his impressive Brussels-based studio and push his sound forward. 
A mainstay of Anja Schneider’s mobilee collective since 2010, Rodriguez Jr. has been one of the jewels in the label’s crown; his effervescent live sets have made him one of the most exciting artists in his field, while his productions remain classy, catchy and always forward-thinking. 

The ‘Chrysalism’ EP sees Rodriguez Jr. tireless drive to develop his sound signature in full flight, all the while staying true to his core production principles of creating captivating, memorable electronic music.

Utilised to great effect in early stages of his recent live sets, the title track is a master class in dramatic juxtapositions and is an exquisite seven-minute composition of warm uplifting synth layers that build over a rough-edged clatter of drums delicately balancing the elements of tension and beauty on a knife’s edge.

‘Etoile Du Nord’ (literally meaning ‘Star of the North’) is a dreamy, propulsive slice of Motor City-inspired techno and the kind you could imagine soundtracking a warehouse party at 6am as the sun begins to seep through the cracks in the corrugated iron roof. 

The EP is rounded out by ‘Kenopsia’ that evokes a kind of beautiful, eerie sense of somber as delicate layers of twinkling melody bubble over the contemplative patter of drums and the light drone of bass. 

“Going back in the studio after months of intense touring, almost one year after my 'Persistence Of Vision' EP, has resulted in strong moments of self awareness and experimentation with my machines. This is why I chose titles such as 'Chrysalism' and 'Kenopsia', describing obscure sorrows you could sometimes feel, without being able to name them,” Rodriguez Jr. explains. 
“Technically, this EP is a crucial step as it's a first attempt to define what my forthcoming album will be. I had collected lots of material while travelling, and my aim was to keep on developing my sound signature in order to emphasize the core emotions - it's been all about stripping things down, focusing on melodies and textures and, once again, finding inspiration in my deepest influences such as the early techno from Detroit.”

On the Way to O.Z.O.R.A. 2016 we caught up with Jake Ainley and Ric Featherstone for a track-studded view of what’s going on in TONGUE and GROOVE land.

Tongue & Groove are on a roll, with three consecutive top ten hits and being booked worldwide to perform at major international festivals they are rocking dance floors on a global level. Jake Ainley and Ric Featherstone are both deeply passionate electronic music lovers, involved in the scene for many years. They met at many Flying Rhino and T.I.P parties in the 1990’s when the scene was exploding and they forged a deep over a mutual deep love of the psychedelic scene and a passion for music production and DJ’ing. After putting on parties and Djng together for over a decade they decided to get in the studio and create the twisted sonic delights that had been turning them on and to make some proper party music.
In 2006 Tongue & Groove was born with a mission to create music that has the best combination of Progressive, Techno and Psychedelic Trance. With their musical roots immersed in the sounds of the beginnings of Goa Trance, they wanted to produce a new sound that both captures the best of that epic era with a new and exciting twist that could be best described as psychedelic techno. A sound that they have pioneered and is now spreading like wildfire around the world.
Now signed to Nano Records they have released E.P’s and tracks with Nano records and on other labels such as Echoes Records ,Iboga Records ,Flow Records, Liquid Records, Broken Records and Shifty Disco. EMF is a groovy, patient, hypnotic and biting at times
composition.
Malli Mi Mass is a collaborative track with Gabi 2B, and
boasts a playful bassline and rhythm section. It is practicing
patience and biting at times, but the surprise is in it’s
breakdown.

For each opportunity I get to DJ, I take on the event and interpret it the best I can, to create something that can drive the necessary energy on the dancefloor... A few months ago Zac Slade approached me and asked me to do the opening set for ASTRIX, arguably the biggest progressive psy-trance act ever. My jaw dropped, and I knew I had to put forth something of my best and tried my hardest to fit the bill; groove laden psychedelia, deep and pumping progressive and minimal techno. Keep your eye on Hypnotic Events, taking psychedelic parties in Sydney to another level.

DigiStr18 consists of previously released Chain Reaction track, for those that missed – worth checking out, especially for outdoor venues, it’s a proper crossover tune – a genre defying rollercoaster.
It’s not that we meant for it to happen, but like in our previous release, the 2 remixers on duty, took their inspiration from different parts of the original, making this release a diverse and very useful one – there is something for everyone here.
We are very happy to welcome Italian Maestro Piatto to our roster. His remix covers the groovy booty shaking part of the release, very well built, it sounds like 70’s disco came back for a short visit dressed up in an up-to-date interpretation.
Gabi 2B, brings in a fat production with big epic breakdown, that uses the seminal piece’s orchestration parts to the max. Based on a no nonsense groove and smartly used electro-ish stab sounds, the drop into the emotional chord progression is a goose bump material no doubt.
