After years of noodling with synths and Ableton Live, I'm excited to release my first original piece of music 🎶

A few months ago, I began trying to resist the urge to start from scratch every time I sat down with my laptop. Day two of working on a song is always less exciting than the first, but I learned that patience here is rewarded with a deeper excitement, the feeling of progress and learning. I quickly realized I had never had to sit down and think about composition before, I had never had to think about mixing and mastering audio (I'm still clueless here). I'm happy to finally face these problems, and look forward to exploring them further!

My friend Oscar and I had a very short jam session and I began recording because we liked what was going on. We're no virtuosos, the timing is all off, but I still find myself opening the file in Ableton and getting up to shuffle around like a little old lady a few times a week. I hope to expand it into a full piece of music, possibly an album, but in the meantime I'd love to share it!

Patapenka is a new disco-leaning alias from Minsk-based Uladzimir Patapenka, who has previously worked as LIPSKI. With 15 years music making experience under his belt including work as an Ableton Live instructor, he sure does know his way around a tune. He worked on these pieces over several months with vocalists, trumpeters and a cellist and as such they are layered tracks that work both in the club or at home. "Children" is a warm and sunny one that transports you to a balmy Mediterranean coast line. "First Dance With You" brings more jazzy vibes with Afro vocals and beautifully lush grooves while Latin feels dominate the slower sounds of "La Playa". "What About This" is a blissed out and stirring instrumental with swooning strings and "Canvas, Oil" shuts down with Rhodes laced funk. A sublime EP.
