Unexplored Earths by nICo is the quest for a new habitable planet. An EP of four tracks that blends spacey and acid vibes, dub percussions, and shamanic rhythms. Between reflection and fervor, this introspective and eclectic sound mosaic becomes an odyssey, an ode to nature. nICo explores texures, deep atmospheres and solar melodies and invites us to new landscapes.

PREMIERE : nICo - Saturation Dub

After kicking off its journey with a rich well-received eleven-track compilation at the end of last year, the Saint Brieuc-based Estuary Tapes brings to the virtual shelves its second release. For the occasion, the promising French label welcomes skilled producer nICo to its roster. With previous works featured on HardFist, Inside Out, and Sinchi, just to name a few, the Italian producer refuses to have his sonority pigeonholed and manages to deliver an interesting palate of colourful pieces.

For his debut on Estuary, nICo presents the expertly constructed “Unexplored Earths”, a four-theme EP with a concerning message: “the quest for a new habitable planet” – something we might need way sooner than expected due to the insatiable greed of the abusers of our fragile and doomed little blue dot.

Premiered here, the insightful “The Red Sun” opens the fete wrapped in what nICo considered the correct aura for the EP: "spacey and acid vibes, dub percussions, and shamanic rhythms” which resulted in a mesmerising and emotive cut filled with “textures, deep atmospheres, and solar melodies.”

Milan-based electronic music producer nICo unveils his debut solo EP, "Unexplored Earths" on label Estuary Tapes. 
These four meticulously crafted tracks arrive in Spring 2024 and come with original artwork by the Estuary Tapes label boss.
Five years of experimentation, expanding methods of composition led nICo to create a piece of work where electronica, downtempo, ritual rhythms, and dub aesthetics converge in a dance of sonic exploration.
This EP invites listeners to pay attention to its textures: the hypnotic grooves and pulsating rhythms of "The Red Sun", the evocative atmospheres of "The Old City", the dub-infused beats of “Saturation Dub”, where layers of sound create depth and intensity, and finally the introspective acid arpeggios of “Visions”.

A few key pieces of gear were key to shaping the sound of the EP: the Nord Drum 3 is at the base of all the tracks, while the Roland JU06 and Behringer Crave synths combined with reverbs and echoes bring an immersive feel, adding further colour and emotions.

He kept on having these strange dreams. They came to him in the middle of the night and left him worried and wondering what might be out there in the far flung reaches of his imagination.

What was reality anyway, the world was a mess.

These visions were hinting at some far off time and place in which everything was perfect and free. Yet how could that be when the world spun with such malice and mischief.

Perhaps they were just dreams after all.

Michal Turtle is one of a handful of artists having been invited to reimagine the music of nICo on Estuary Tapes. A kraut track with rugged soul.

Milan-based electronic music producer nICo unveiled his debut solo EP, "Unexplored Earths" on label Estuary Tapes in May 2024. After several weeks of work, the label is proud to unveil the remixed edition, featuring contributions from several prominent names in the electronic scene : MR TC, Michal Turtle, Steve Pepe, A-Tweed and Oltrefuturo.
These new versions of nICo's tracks bring another dimension to the EP with a much more dub-oriented approach. MR TC and Michal Turtle's remixes sound like an ode to introspection, while A-Tweed, Oltrefuturo, and Steve Pepe deliver two gems crafted for the dancefloor.

The release is out now in digital format with a limited edition of 50 CDs on the label bandcamp page. The CD got streamed live for the first time during this show on Radio Raheem and can be found in this recording.

I feel very excited to share this mix that I made for The Kasbar in Gibraltar. 
It's without any doubt, my most eclectic mix that I have recorded so far. 
It's an afternoon/evening listening mix including music from the world, ranging from ambient electronic to japanese jazz, tribal, balearic, nu disco, cosmic disco and downtempo, under the 100bpm mark for its entire duration.

Isola DNA by nICo - 6th June 2018 - Netil Radio London

"The Night Glimpse" is a mix that I recorded last month and I'm so glad I finally made it. I have been collecting some tracks which were giving me  particular feelings and I considered "special" in a folder since the beginning of this year. I kept adding, removing and adding  tracks again until I really felt it was the right time to record a mix like this one.

I always put a very personal feeling when I record a mix, it's almost an essential part of making a mixtape for me, it's that personal touch which makes me want to listen to something that I recorded again and again.

It includes some songs that I have been playing quite a lot in the past, some others that I have been listening to a lot but didn't manage to play plus some new tracks I fell in love with recently.

“The Mirror Dancers” is a track that I made a while ago, and although I’m really happy with how it turned out, instead of following the usual route of sending it to labels and waiting for a release I decided to make it available as a free download on my Bandcamp account. This year has been one of the most challenging period for everyone, especially for the music industry. This song is a tribute to all those dancers and clubbers who haven’t been able to find themselves on a dance floor as much as they would have liked to this 2020. It stands for all the people who still dance, even on their own, even if it’s in front of their mirror.
