"Waking Cloud" is a dynamic live-set performance, centering on intricate internal feedback processes. The piece unfolds through a series of meticulously curated feedback states, offering a delicate balance between controlled parameters and improvisational freedom. Its temporal evolution is characterized by a remarkable flexibility, capable of seamlessly adapting to the unique dynamics of each performance setting. The title of the performance, "Waking Cloud," draws inspiration from James Joyce's seminal work, "Finnegans Wake." In Joyce's novel, time experiences a feedback state, reflecting the cyclical and recursive nature of human experience. The title alludes to this theme of temporal feedback, suggesting a parallel between the fluid, ever-shifting nature of time in Joyce's narrative and the dynamic, flexible temporal development of the performance. "Waking Cloud" aims to create an immersive sonic experience where time itself becomes a fluid and malleable element, shaped by intricate feedback processes and improvisational exploration.

I made one recording with voice and one without.
The text is:
The last words of Alfred Jarry, the inventor of King Ubu and Doctor Faustroll, were "bring me a toothpick." I don't know what the last words of Sten Hanson were, but in the early sixties, he used a toothpick as a tool to manipulate a tape recorder to be able to record several layers of voice on top of each other. In this piece, we will hear his toothpick sing its own song.

Sten Hanson's Toothpick Without Voice

Colliders (2013) is an interactive work for laptop computer and MIDI controller, with audio output designed for any number of circularly-configured loudspeakers. Colliders began as a musical component of a multimedia collaboration, but was later excerpted and modified to be performable as a standalone interactive musical composition.

The work is inspired by the myth of Icarus, and metaphorically relates to the effort of human to reach the sky and go beyond the limits of his biological nature. 

A sum of different ‘flying’, evolving behaviours –from bird-like to jet-like sounds- represents this human struggle throughout the work. Most sounds derived from field recordings during a soundscape project in Corfu, Greece. Soundscapes of nature are transformed to represent different behaviours, detached from the original source, creating an acousmatic tale...

Realized as a post-doctoral research composition, under "Pythagoras" research programme, funded by the EU and the Greek Ministry of Education, and co-ordinated by the Ionian University, Department of Music Studies, between 2006-2008. 

Icarus was amongst the finalists of 34th International Competition at Bourges, (France 2007), and was awarded the Audience Prize at the  METAMORPHOSES 2008 International Composition Competition (Belgium).

Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts - you wouldn't believe it. It's like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it's just slowed down, they didn't manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there's something to be said for slowing down the world."

Monades + is the musical transposition of a philosophical investigation, the attempt to separate an initial unity with a process that leads to a final recomposition in another form. after a journey of contamination and processing. The piece originates from a multiphonic clarinet cluster, that after various sound processing, developed following a rigorous (although hidden) polyrhythmic structure. Further sound elements are then inserted in the resulting openings, causing the rhythmic dissolution and spectral mutation of the early material. After an inevitable rupture at the peak of the accumulation process, an inverse process begins, leading to a new monad, a sort of aesthetic and sound memory of all the mutations that occurred which no longer has anything in common with the initial cluster. A melt down final synthesis, a painful witness of a process that does not have the power to recreate what it has destroyed.

Nicola Casetta is a Composer and sound artist from Italy. His current work is devided into three avenues: context-specific music, concerned phonography, in situ installation and sound mapping; studio music; largely concerned with transformation of mostly acoustic and electronic materials via Musique Concrète techniques. Live Electronic Music; largely improvised and or performed in loose, with a custom modular laptop instrument based on live sampling. 
His music focuses on the use computer technology to transform, disassemble and reassemble sounds in innovative ways to create sonic drama and musical development. This involves fusion of sounds recorded in natural environments with more abstract sounds developed through electroacoustic processes, drawing on the capacity of ‘real-world’ sound to evoke novel imagery and natural points of reference for listeners. 
In the last few years Nicola has been performing live electronic music devoted to site-specific compositions in which he uses field recordings and sound synthesis. His musical research is directed to explore a possible link between natural, instrumental and electroacoustic sounds and the interdependent relationship with the place in which they are performed and heard.
Over many years he has collected a personal phonography archive and developed a very attentive listening toward the sounds of the world. He recently started to engaged himself with the presentation of his field recordings and with environmental installations.

In 2014 Nicola was an artist in residence at Moks, Center for Art and Social Practice (Estonia), supported by the project DE.MO./Movin'Up by the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities (MiBAC) as well as the Estonian Ministry of Culture. He was also an artist in residence at Røst (Norway) supported by the Norwegian Ministry.
His music has been perfomed at Boreali in Bergen (NO), Festival DME in Lisbon (PT), Festival Zeit fur Neue Musik in Rockhenhausen (DE), Frameworkradio in London (UK), Manifeste Ircam in Paris, Ma/In in Matera, 8th FKL Symposium, NYCEMF 2015, ICMC 2014 in Athens, XX CIM in Rome, SoundKitchen (UK), Sweet Thunder Festival of Electro-Acoustic Music in San Francisco (US), UCSD Music - CPMC Theathre in San Diego (US), VII Simposio Internazionale FKL, Premio Phonologia in Milan, Silence Acusmatica 2013, Segnali 12-13-14, Distanze 2013 and 2014, Festival dei Due Mondi of Spoleto 2012, Atomino Experimental Festival among others.

Nicola is currently Professor of Electroacustic Composition at the Conservatory of Alessandria and Teramo. He also thought courses Live Electronic Music at the Conservatory of Perugia and Electroacustic at the Conservatory of Nocera Terinese and Ferrara.
