Plus, we talked about why what you wear DOES in fact matter when you're showing up online. In my opinion, you should show up feeling and looking FABULOUS every time you are online. *Before you yell at me, I also share that being in your workout gear is acceptable and just as fabulous as being 'done up'. 

Finally, we chatted through the importance of a multi-prong approach to the content you put out there. From advice, hints, education, lifestyle stuff.. and of course, the need for a little (or a lot) of entertainment!!!!! 

We learned what a 'dag' was, as well. The aussie version of a dag. Not the thing hanging off the back of a sheep's butt ;)

Today on TCR I wanted to talk allll about the stories we tell ourselves. We're into 561 whichis insane!

I remember years ago reading some of Brené Browns work and loving it... things hadn't been great in my marriage at the time (for a while) and a huge part of it was that we weren't commicating in a way that either of us could hear each other. 

So instead of having conversations about our feelings, we'd shut down or fight - neither of which is productive. I remember reading about the Rumbling and how we all make up stories in our heads about whatever it is that's going on. She explains a framework to rumbling.. and I have to tell you: 

This transformed my marriage, my coaching, my writing… pretty much my life! 

You may be wondering what the heck this has to do with marketing? And business? And all the othter things rolling around in your head.. 

But if you took a moment to have a vulnerable conversation with yourself, really writing down the story that youre teling yourself about why you're not where you want to be, where you think you should be, what would happen if this didn't work, what story would you be making up? 

What are YOU telling yourself?

What you are effectively doing is living in ONE PROBABLY FUTURE. A shitty one, most likely!! 

We've become freaking excellent at discounting our abiities to get to where we want to be. We tell ourselves stories about what could happen if you launch a marketing campagin that doesn't.. you put yourself out there and do a LIVESTREAM... or what if you make an offer to someone and they say no.

When you've worked out the DISEMPOWERING story, you have space to create an ALTERNATE PROBABLE FUTURE that you can now focus on. 

What you focus on, after all, is what you'll get to the exclusion of all else. 

Being VULNERABLE with yourself and with other people can feel uncomfortable, awkward, hard.... but what if you chose instead to believe that being vulnerable is actually YOUR SUPER POWER? 

In life, relationships, business, your coaching, in your practice, with your clients, in your marketing, in your writing and even in your videos? 

Wouldn't that be a GREAT story to rumble with?

The stories we tell ourselves A la Brené BrowN

Every successful entrepreneur and business owner I have had the pleasure of talking to, working with and mentoring has told me that they all have had moments where they knew that it was time to reinvent themselves or create almost a new identity for themselves so they can reach ‘the next level’ … not necessarily in business, but in themselves.

What I’ve worked out through going through this process myself as well as helping others (and witnessing it) is that there are 5 big steps that people go through and things that they need.

1. Time and Space. Creating this is crucial and critical if you really want to work out what you need in order to change and shift… and ultimately create within you the identity of who you want to become.

2. Letting go. You’ve got to let go of all the old thinking, the old ways of doing things, the old crap hanging around you.. and even the things that you’re doing that you hate!

3. Imagining and Dreaming.

4. Plotting and Planning.

5. Being and Doing.

Then, you know that it’s all going to come back around, so it’s important that you also resting, rejuvenate. so you can reinvent again.

Creating the identity of the person you want to become

There’s a ton of questions I’ve had over the years from people about HOW to create online courses. They may have already had a ton of success in the land of working 1:1 with people and now they’re wanting to leverage what they’re doing and what they know…. Or they be just starting out. 

Either way, I’ve been running coaching programs and courses now for 12+ years (I know!) and there’s a few ways that I’ve tested that work:
 
1) Pre-create your course and then sell it – evergreen or live with Q&A’s mixed in, etc.
2) Sell it then create it LIVE and then retire it
3) Sell it then create it LIVE and then sell it cheaper as an evergreen/self paced program

These have been probably the three main things I’ve tested over the years. 

When I was first starting out I liked the idea of pre-creating it. That provided me with a sense of certainty and that I knew what I was selling! It was legit… almost like having the physical product in my hand. 

However, the first one that I did like this, I only pre-created the first two modules. Then, I waited for people to have signed up before creating more. I was always at least one week in advance of where my clients were. It worked well for me. 

It also meant I didn’t spend months pre-creating something when I wasn’t even sure that it would sell!!! 

I’ve run other programs where I have run them in ‘rounds’, whereby I’d create the program / deliver the program live and then it would get ‘archived’ so to speak. These were high end programs that I was delivering and I didn’t really want to be releasing what I was teaching to anyone else once that ‘round’ of the program was done. I wanted to deliver them LIVE every time. 

I also found results were better and people actually went and consumed the training when it was delivered live versus sitting there always available. 

Thirdly, I still do this with some of my programs today – for my lower end programs. I deliver them live, then they get put into my membership portal and I can if I choose to, release them as self-paced study programs. 

The best advice I can give you, from experience personally and seeing that of clients, is to start where you want to start… but I wouldn’t go creating everything in advance before selling it.

I have been talking with a lot of kickass successful women (and some amazing gents) over the past 6 months about how things are 'out there' at the moment.

I know a lot of people have found themselves in a situation where they are wanting more... but they're not necessarily sure what that is.

Some are looking at other business owners and admiring their teams, their growth and the size of their businesses... and can sometimes find themselves feeling inferior and somewhat less-than because they don't have a 10million dollar a year business, a million dollar a year business... or perhaps even half a mill....

Others have that.. and have found that this is no longer what they want.

Scale Up? Scale down? Stay put? The Coffee Run E629

A recurring theme of late is that people are tired of seeing carbon copy after carbon copy of sameness 'out there' when it comes to their industry and the people who are out there marketing themselves and their services.

I mean, aren't we all sick and tired of seeing the same boring-ass 'famous people' quotes on pastel backgrounds with thing cursive fonts? Yep. Same.

I was chatting with a kickass business woman yesterday about this exact thing. Whilst there may be (maybe at a stretch) a place in the newsfeed for that kind of thing, it gets scrolled past pretty quickly. There's a 2 second - at best - spark of attention and bam, you're gone from their eyeballs and their minds.

What does this mean for YOU?

Well, it means that we have less time now than ever before to capture attention and to make an impact on someone.

It means that you need to be really really clear about what makes you different.

It means you have to be innovative and come up with new ways of saying things that your audience needs to hear.

It means you're actually going to HAVE TO find a way to articulate your own zone of genius, your own intellectual property (IP) and you're going to have to be more brave than ever before!

For me: I do not want to be lumped ok the same bucket as everyone else in this industry. I want to be seen as different. As someone who has experience and tenacity.

I think pretty much every client I've had comes to me at one point in time or another and asks me for some structure when it comes to their content.



Now, some people prefer to 'free flow' (I am one of those people) and some people like 'structure' (I am also one of those people). I am a bit of a 'weird' one in the sense that I tend to have a foot in each camp - who said you can't have it all?? Pfft!



The thing that I find for most of my clients, is that having some structure for their content actually helps them to have more flow.

It's a little bit like how you first of all follow a recipe when you're learning to cook something new, and then you can start to add your own 'twist' or your own flavours to it as you become more familiar with it.



On The Coffee Run this morning, I stepped everyone through a framework that you can use for pretty much any piece of content you want to create that is a 'value-add' based piece of content.



There are five main steps that you can work through which I talk about in the video.



The biggest reasons people have given me over the years as reasons why they haven't created content yet or resist creating it regularly are things like:

* Time

* Worrying what their peers might say

* Wondering if anyone will even listen to them

* The fear of running out of things to say

* The worry that they'll go off tangent and not remember what they were talking about



I used to have these as well. So for me, when I created this framework in 2011 I haven't stopped using it for my videos and my content creation. Now that you know what I'm doing, you'll hear everything I do and talk about within this framework! hahahhaa!

Structure for me gives me some certainty. It allows me the space to ad lib, to play, to be silly, to be serious, to deliver great value without being concerned about you all not understanding or getting the point of what I'm putting out there.

Here we are! Another day, another coffee.. other LIVESTREAM!!!!  I have many flaws… one of them, however, is NOT inconsistency… but it hasn’t always been that way!!!! 

Something that I learned early on for me, is that if I have a PLAN, I can do anything. 

Here’s how I started out: 
- Video blogs
    - I’d batch create them by listing out all the ideas for what I’d talk about 
    - I’d work out the problems I’d solve in them
    - then I’d come up with the stories
    - then I’d come up with the steps people needed to take
    - Then I’d film, like 8, in one day!
    - That gave me 2 months of weekly content!!!! 
- Blogging
    - Similar process
- Livestreams
    - similar process!!!! 
- Picture quotes
    - similar process 

So you see the pattern? I created a system to follow. 

And that’s what keeps me on track. It’s what keeps me consistent.

Since 2011 I have spent time on the daily journalling and imaging what I want to create.

This is one of the most undervalued skills you can learn. This tapping into your higher self/source/god/intuition is, if I can claim this (which of course I can) to success. 

Every successful business owner I know of spends time in their ‘mind’ clearly seeing what it is that they want create. From their car, to their business, to their money to their lifestyle to their health. 

I can say that 99% of what I have done and created I ‘saw’ first. I imagined it to be true. I then reverse engineered what I did to create that, in my imaginary world where everything worked.. and then I took the steps in the ‘now’ to make it happen!

2. journal
3. determine the steps that you need to take in order to bring this to life
4. take mofoing action
