Toy Tonics delivers the 2nd pre-single of label boss KAPOTE’s upcoming 2nd album. An instrumental tune that combines melodic inspirations from German electronic music, Italo disco with the dreamy world of Japanese 1980s electronica and the vibes of 1970 fusion jazz. Yes, some might hear influences from Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yellow Magic Orchestra, Italian electronic disco or even Chick Corea’s electric jazz or Kraut Rock melancholy in the new Kapote tracks. And Prana & Passione is a good hint on how the whole album will sound.

Kapote started Toy Tonics Records almost 10 years ago with some friends, after he had been known under the name MUNK and his former label GOMMA records for years. He used to produce music for and with artists like LCD Soundsystem, Peaches, Franz Ferdinand, the first album of WhoMadeWho or the New York street art legend The Rammellzee. He changed the name when he started Toy Tonics as a new label that is dedicated to a dance floor sound that combines musicality, sonic diversity and positivity with DJ culture. While techno and trance became darker and harder over the last few years, Kapote and his artists wanted to offer new forms of house music that combine different styles from Afrofunk and American underground dance music to neo soul, Italian disco or French indie dance. A new dance sound based on good songs and fresh ideas to create real emotions on dance floors.

In the last few years, Kapote was mainly helping the young new DJs and producers that he found for the Toy Tonics label to develop their sounds (Coeo, Cody Currie, Gee Lane, Bárbara Boeing, Sam Ruffillo). But now, as the label and its artists started to „fly“, Kapote aka Mathias Modica finally went back to the studio and developed his own musical ideas. Sounds that are based on dance music and the 4 to the floor beat and go much further than the efficacy of a DJ tool. It's all about creating music that you can listen at home and creates positive emotions. Music that you want to hear on repeat.   

After his debut album as Kapote in 2019 and a solo EP called „Electric Slide“ and a collabo EP with Italian producer Sam Ruffillo („Robot Salsa“) this tune is part of the next Kapote album. It’s worth reminding Kapote’s former works as Munk: Four albums released on Gomma Records between 2005 and 2015 that are a wild mix of styles and that became legendary back in those indie dance days. Music supported by all kinds of DJs from Soulwax, Erol Alkan, James Murphy and Andrew Weatherall to Blessed Madonna, Seth Troxler, Folamour or Justice and Laurent Garnier.

Similar to Gomma Records, Kapote’s former label (which was active from 2003 - 2015 and used to become one of the key labels of the „indie dance“ scene of those years) in recent times Toy Tonics has become one of the key labels of the new house and growing indie dance scene. Only in 2024 the label made more than 100 Toy Tonics Jams, the label parties in 15 countries. Being invited to festivals like SONAR, KALA festival, Montreux Jazz festival, Melt and many more to bring their sound. And doing sold-out label shows in Europe’s leading clubs, from Phonox in London to REX in Paris. Including a new residency in Panorama Bar Berlin (the label's homebase).

Following releases for the likes of Toy Tonics, Aus Music, Rhythm Section and Kitsuné Musique, Berlin/London based producer Arpy Brown drops the first EP under his own name. Having previously released under the name Athlete Whippet, Arpy is not new to the scene. His music has been supported by the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Mixmag, DJ Mag and Resident Advisor.

2024 has seen Arpy Brown take his joyful, high energy sets that combine club music’s intensity with the charm and intricacy of non-electronic, organic music, to stages across mainland Europe, the UK and as far as Australia and New Zealand. 2025 is a year of next steps for Arpy, with him launching his new live set alongside his new EP 'Fantasy' on Toy Tonics. On this EP, Arpy has truly found his voice. After having dabbled with adding his own vocals into his productions on recent records, this 4-tracker features present lead vocals by Arpy on all tracks; an element that is also key to the new live show. Kicking the year off with some debut shows in Southeast Asia, Arpy is set to return to Panorama Bar, alongside other legendary venues such as London's Village Underground and Oslo's Jaeger.

Taking a communal approach to music making, Robin co-founded Athlete Whippet together with long-term friend and collaborator Aviram Barath, who he co-ran artist collective and record label Squareglass with at the time. In line with this ethos, he's also been hosting intimate nights with DJs from far across the electronic music ecosystem since 2019. Guest sets from the likes of Seb Wildblood, Jitwam, Rebecca Vasmant, Fouk, Amy Dabbs, Hidden Spheres, Will Saul and some of the scene's brightest new talents have made for some unmissable parties in London's and Berlin's cosiest venues.

Arpy Brown's releases have also come with reworks from Ross from Friends, Baltra and Max Graef.
