This remix aims to capture the essence of Tash Sultana's pain, power, and perseverance through the hard times she endured. From this, a beautiful and strong star emerged, with a pure and blissful voice. Synergy is the first track on her Notion EP, and I believe it truly sets the tone for the rest of what she is about to deliver. That dark and mysterious atmosphere is what I sought to convey in this remix.

SYNERGY (feat. Tash Sultana) [scottie remix]

This track is a bit of an experiment and the first recording I’ve made with my new Sequential Prophet REV2—hence the title.

The workflow was pretty hybrid: I had the Eurorack sequencing the chord progression and controlling the filter on the REV2. For the textured layers, I ran the synth signal through Mutable Instruments Beads and a Qu-Bit Bender, pitched them up an octave, and wove them in as small snippets.

The rest of the soundscape comes from an ATOM (Antumbra’s Elements clone), while the bassline is a simple patch on Plaits modulated by a few LFOs.

Recorded in one take with just a little EQ and compression added in Ableton. Hope you enjoy it.

Blending country, gospel and 60s soul, the result is a unique take on Australian soul music and a record full of life, energy and deeply felt storytelling.  

With influences ranging from Father John Misty, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Alabama Shakes built above a steady foundation of southern soul music, this collection of stellar players have created a mesh of Stax and Motown with a healthy dose of the Nashville songwriting tradition.
