Ever heard of Smash TV? You should have, because these guys have been around for quite a while now. Smash TV is now a two-man project, but it wasn’t always like this. Founder Holger Zilske started out in the 90’s producing for bpitchcontrol, creating the albums Electrified and Bits for Breakfast, singles like Yellow Asteroids, Air/Earth and Locomotive Breath plus co-writing and co-production for Ellen Allien including the albums Stadtkind, Berlinette and Thrills. Playhouse, Diynamic and Leena have been recent stations on Holgers path, always displaying a distinct blend of complex arrangements, gargantuan bass lines and sweat-fueled percussion.

„Love is the Key – Liebe ist der Schlüssel“

Macht man etwas mit Liebe, so sagt man, wird es zu etwas Besonderem. Die Liebe und Leidenschaft mit der man etwas macht ist also der Schlüssel zum Herzen Anderer und die, die es sehen oder hören, denen gefällt es besser und es berührt sie. Genau so ist es mit der Musik. Musik ist wie Magie - sie ist ein Transportmittel für Traurigkeit - aber auch für Freude. Und wenn es gelingt, beide Extreme zusammenzubringen, entsteht die Magie die uns in ihren Bann zieht. Für Sidney Lanier (1842-1881) war „Musik die Liebe auf der Suche nach einem Wort“. Mir gefällt dieser Gedanke sehr gut.
Klar hoffe ich mit jedem meiner Sets etwas Besonderes zu schaffen – manchmal gelingt es besser, manchmal nicht ganz so gut, aber ich versuche es jedes Mal diese Magie zu erzeugen andere zu berühren und das ist für mich einfach das Schönste und einfach unglaublich!

Irish techno, electro and electronica producer Chymera makes his debut here on Canadian
label My Favourite Robot Records with this superb 4 track EP.

Before now the talented craftsman has released on labels like Ovum, Kompakt and
Connaisseur and has been active for a decade. His sound is filmic and patient, features
plenty of great synth work and therefore fits in perfectly with the MFR sound.

Up first is 'Other Worlds', a serene cut with proud chords and percolating drums down
below. Slivery and reflective, shiny and golden, it's a lush way to start. 'Vertigo' is then a
more direct cut with pixelated chord stabs, arpeggiated bass and a slick sense of groove
that carries us well into the future.

On the flip, 'Inner Worlds' pairs things back to a more insular deep house groove. Sombre
chords sway back and forth as hiccuping snares roll over rubbery drums. There is mystery
and intrigue in the little pads that float about and the whole thing has a soothing effect on
mind, body and soul. Lastly, 'Erku' is the deepest of the lot, where bubbling drums and
synths unravel in an eerie and spacious sound world. Stuttering drums eventually arrive to
kick start things and the whole thing is soft focus and perfectly cosmic.

Once more here MFR have unearthed an artful producer who can do so much more than
just lay down a track - instead he injects a true sense of musicality into his work as
displayed on this standout EP.

What a surreal night this was, playing in the PlayAlchemist pyramid on Friday night after Armen Miran, it felt like traveling altogether on an intergalactic spaceship, passing portals to new dimensions bursting with love and light!
