Though it's creation has suffered deeply of the Covid-19 crisis and the final rehearsals and recording session of the album has been postponed, I'm happy to start unveiling this new and ambitious project of mine. I’ve always loved, even revered counterpoint music. J.S. Bach’s music especially, but also Chostakovich’s preludes and fugues have always provided peace and happiness to me. The healing qualities of Bach's music making them the closest thing I know to my own concept of deity. Throughout the years I challenged myself to compose short counterpoints, and recently dwelled deeper into it, writing longer canons and fugues. I ended up composing a series of 7 fugues based on the same theme, a simple melodic fragment, and a counter-melody. If the name of this project is an obvious tribute to Bach's 'Art of the Fugue', it is also an homage to Henri Laborit's book 'L'Eloge de la fuite' which has been enlightening for me. Today I feel blessed to be able to perform the music I composed with the wonderful musicians, and highly creative improvisers of this band.
