I love the use of the calliope and it's solo on this recording.
Originally composed by Julius Fucik in 1897 ( also know as Thunder and Blazes).  It was intended to be used as a serious military march but circuses in the early 1900s adopted it as their favorite "screamer march" and re-named it "Thunder and Blazes."

This is one of the oldest Billy Murray records I own. His earliest surviving records were made in May of 1903, but I read his first recordings were made in 1897! None of those survive though.

Charley Case only made 3 recordings. The other 2 are: "How Mother Made the Soup" and "Father As a Scientist". His comedy is subtle, and his delivery is very deadpan. It's hard to believe this record is 111 years old because this monologue sounds like modern stand-up comedy.
