Brun was a student of Scott Joplin in the early 1900s. He composed this rag back then but it was never published or recorded on disc. Brun was brought out of retirement during the ragtime/traditional jazz revival of the 1940s to record his composition.

One of the "newer" records I own...This record was a big hit in 1941 and sparked the ragtime and traditional jazz revival in the 1940s, during a time when big band swing was the most popular music around. Wally Rose on the piano, is backed by the Lu Watters Yerba Buena Jazz Band. Lu and his band were playing ragtime and jazz, live and on the radio, as far back as the late '30s.

"Black and White Rag" was originally composed by George Botsford in 1908. I also have a couple 1908 era orchestral disc recordings of this song (Victor 16350 and Columbia A711), plus the original sheet music!

Silver Fox Trot by Prince's Band (1915, Little Wonder - 236) comp. Henry Lodge

This is a early recording of what later became a traditional jazz classic in the 30s thru the 50s.  It was originally  published by Mr. Porter Steele in 1901 and was 22 years old by the time King Oliver recorded it  The tempo on this record is more of "ragtime-march".
