'Mandela' is a combination of the late Hon. Nelson Mandela's speech on Oprah Winfrey's show " Oprah" and South African Gospel Song 'Bawo Thixo Somandla". 

Oprah Winfrey: "Okay...I'm still trying to understand though...you began the peace talk...and you end up coming out of prison...and there is no bitterness. How is there no bitterness?"

Nelson Mandela: "Well...I hated oppression...and when I think about the type of things they did, I feel angry...you have a limited time to stay...on earth...you must try and use that period..for the purpose..of transforming your country..in to what you desire it to be."

Mandela talks about how oppression devastated him so much but opted him to focus on his core purpose on earth which was to aid in the transformation of his country South Africa for a better tomorrow. 

We should all strive to understand that we are all brothers and sisters in the eyes of God and through him we can stand in one accord and work as a family to develop a better world for our forthcoming generations.

'Bawo Thixo Somandla" was a song done in the early eighties by Jabulani Mazibuko's Soweto teachers Choir. They had heard it from a choir at a school for disabled children in Umtata as they were on their tour to the Transkei in the Eastern Cape Province.

They were so moved by the depth of feeling with which the song was sung by these little ones that they immediately decided to learn it from them and import it into Soweto.

These facts tell us something of the nature of the song: It is a prayer of supplication to God from people in dire distress.

However, some have chosen to interpret it as a “protest” song. That, unfortunately, is the fate of a number of folk-songs: They are all too often construed in the narrower context of local socio-political conditions.

But the empathically repeated words mayedlule lendebe (“may this cup pass from us”: clearly an allusion to the words of Christ during his Agony in the Garden as given by all three Synoptic Gospels) tend rather, in our view, to tip the scales in favour of the “prayerful” interpretation.

She has released three albums of original songs: “Wild Horse Running Free”, “Songs from Willow Glen” and “Grand View Drive”, and six singles. With social commentary on subjects such as Apartheid, suicide prevention, animal rights, life in Laurel Canyon, and poems by Yeats and Shelley put to music, Nicolette Aubourg’s songwriting is diverse and thought-provoking. Her goal is to contribute to making the world a better place, especially for animals, the environment and victims of war, famine and conflict.
