Leipzig and its musicians – they are quite something. The city’s music history includes Johann Sebastian Bach, Matthias Tanzmann and Thomas Brachmann. However, Brachmann is probably rather known under his acronym TOM B. Although TOM B. reads “tomb”, “grave” in the English language, in the context of music, it stands for his DJ sets and productions fully enjoying live. People say that Leipzig is the new Berlin, especially when it comes to clubbing and music. Paul Kalkbrenner was born here, however, he moved to the capital, later. What used to be dark and sooty due to the established industry and coal mining is now surrounded by newly created see landscapes, thriving with new life. Leipzig has come to be known as “Hypzig”. TOM B., born in 1984 on the southern outskirts of the trade-fair city, has experienced that amazing change first-hand, has even given it is own face. He started to perform as a DJ in 1999. In 2001 he had his first gig in the legendary Distillery club that is Germany’s oldest House & Techno Club. Up until the year 2005 he was a Distillery resident, he was the first five years of the millennium at home, here. Since 2009 the Skyclub is his home base, unless he has gigs in Amsterdam, Budapest, Berlin, Hamburg or Munich. Additionally, TOM B. has been a member of Dusted Decks right of its outset, which counts 9 years by now. His sound is characterized by House, Deephouse and Tech House. Remixes for David K. and Nicolas Hannig, M-22 and Anton Ishutin are what he is known for. TOM B. will take part in the “About:Berlin” Compilation by Universal Music and present “Drive without Engine”. His productions are released on Damm und Klang Gymnastik, Fukai, Music/Great Stuff and Well Done! together with remixes by Lexer, Teenage Mutants and Rich vom Dorf or by Ron Flatter, Nico Pusch and Thomas Lizzara. Even if the year 1984 – which marks the birth of TOM B. – predicts a rather dark vision in the eyes of George Orwell in 1949 – we have to say that looking back at 1984 now, in 2015, that year must have been an excellent one! Music by and from Leipzig is en vogue – and we rightly owe that to Tom B., too!

Jeder von euch kennt sicher die Bilder von Krieg und Terror mit denen wir tagtäglich überflutet werden. Eigentlich sollte man meinen, dass die Menschheit aus den Fehlern der Vergangenheit gelernt hat und solche Bilder der Vergangenheit angehören. Leider ist genau das Gegenteil der Fall und fast kein Tag vergeht ohne eine erneute Schreckensnachricht. Die Gier, wirtschaftliche Interessen, das Streben nach Macht, ... stehen über allem. Der Verlierer ist die Menschheit, unser Planet, ... .

Manchmal stellt sich mir die Frage, was uns noch von den Tieren unterscheidet. Fressen oder gefressen werden scheint das Kredo zu sein nachdem ein Großteil der Bevölkerung lebt. Kaum einer schaut nach links oder rechts.  Jeder ist sich selbst der Nächste und versucht irgendwie über die Runden zu kommen. Empathie, Menschlichkeit, Mitgefühl, Nächstenliebe,… bedeutende Wesensmerkmale die uns von den Tieren unterscheiden, bleiben auf der Strecke. 

Sollte man noch Kinder in diese Welt setzen oder wäre das verantwortungslos? Fakt ist, die Zukunft der nächsten Generationen ist ungewisser denn je. 

Doch auch wenn es phasenweise hoffnungslos erscheint, so sollten wir den Glauben an die Menschheit nicht verlieren, denn was wäre wenn unser oder dein, dein oder dein Kind den Unterschied macht? Er oder Sie durch eine bahnbrechende Erfindung oder durch seinen Führungsstil die Welt zum Positiven hin verändern könnte. 

Was uns die Zukunft bringen wird steht in den Sternen. Klar ist, wir alle können unseren Teil dazu beitragen, um die Welt wieder zu einem besseren Ort zu machen. Mein Traum ist es, dass wir uns wieder mehr für unsere Umwelt interessieren und im Alltag mehr Menschlichkeit zeigen. Kleine Gesten wie jemand Fremden die Tür aufhalten oder Älteren und Schwächeren den eigenen Platz in öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln anzubieten. Kleine Gesten können große Wirkung zeigen und helfen die Welt wieder zu einem besseren, lebens- und liebenswerteren Ort zu machen. 

In diesem Set habe ich mich genau mit diesem Thema befasst und hoffe dass ich bei dem Einen oder Anderen einen Nerv treffe und zum Nachdenken anregen kann.

Thats the recording of my set at the last GANS ODER KRANICH party in Docks. What a crazyyyyy night. The energy of all the lovely people on the floor was AMAZING. I was sweating like in a sauna, had wet eyes a few times, goosebumps all the time and much much fun.  Maybe not every mix is in perfection but the circumstances are not easy when the boss of the club and the people in front of the booth are throwing confetti IN YOUR FACE :D:D:D ... thanx a lot for this outstanding nice night <3
