First of (hopefully) 24 songs written during December 2023 song a day for Advent song challenge. The prompt was to write a song using a food. This happened.

Vanilla Extract

This song was written during December 2023 Advent song challenge. Wrote this to a ditty that guitarist Chris Wittman sent me a few years ago. Finally was able to mold it into something that encapsulates many of our thoughts during the holidays :) enjoy!

Day 3 Prompt: write about the first thing you thought of when you woke up. And do it in 3/4 time. Falling for you came out!

Falling For You

Day 4 challenge was a brief-free write! Luckily I was inspired while out this morning. There’s a house on my road that just got demolished. That triggered the memory of my grandparent’s house that was recently demolished as well. The image struck me as I reflected on it and took a little ride down memory lane. This one was a tearjerker to write, just warning you.

Day 5 Challenge: Change one word in the lyrical hook of another song and write a new song around that. I kept things in the Christmas season and used “Baby, it’s cold outside.”

Day 6 was prompt-less. Luckily I was still able to write something. Enjoy “Communication Breakdown.”

Day 7: write an acapella song. I failed at that. Instead worked off a title I already had and shot this little film.

Red Wine And Cigarettes

Day 8 - I’ve been trying to be honest in the songs I’ve written this past week. I follow the thread that comes to mind and try not to judge it. If I think it has worth I keep chasing the thread. Doing this much writing, producing, singing, video editing, etc is creatively draining so I wonder how much stamina I’ll have in the coming 2 weeks. Might not get as much of a polished product but who knows. So far I’ve been energized to do it. I think there’s been a lot brewing inside of me that I need to let out. Besides these new songs I’ve got a pile of others that are being worked on (which I plan to release in the new year).

Be Me

The prompt was to write about an unusual love. That led to this which is inspired by that prompt. Often times it’s just following a string of thoughts to get the juices flowing. The idea concept of the lyric is when a bully does his work, he’s just insecure with himself and hiding something inside.

I think of this song as a note to my children.

Love Is In Your Eyes

Day 10: There was no prompt, so I used my old postmaster (she was the postmaster even if they didn't give her the title) as a muse. The story is of a woman who is ready to move on to the next big thing in her life.

Day 11: the prompt came in after I already started writing. Forever Bound is inspired by a mother’s struggle raising children and her #unconditionallove for them.

Day 12: it was tough today. Couldn’t find inspiration. Lacking energy. Around 3pm I dug deep and found this song. I didn’t think I was going to like it. But I do! I hope you do too.
