Mihell & Pinkfinger have just put the finishing touches to their massive remix of Skylar Grey’s “Invisible” for Interscope Records.  This represents a turning point for the duo as it is set to be a massive club hit when it hits the club promo at the end of July.
With over 12 years of DJ and music production experience, there’s no doubt DJ-ing is one of life's great buzzes for Nigel, and coming from an ex Open Wheel Race Car Driver, that’s no small statement!  He has DJ’ed in clubs all over the world as well as having held a number of residencies along the way.  His most recent regular gig was during his time spent in Vancouver (BC, Canada) where he played on several occasions for the mighty Stereotype as well as the city’s famous after-hours Gorg-O-Mish.  Prior to that, between 2008 and 2009, he was regularly at the forefront of the UK club scene as co-promoter and resident at MiMo@Mango in Reading (UK).  Before this he was still blazing a trail through clubland with a 3 year residency at Seb Fontianes epic night, Type at The Cross (London, UK) and was the resident for Sessions in Northampton (UK) between 2003 and 2005 after he had actually helped to start the night up alongside the Midlands premiere club promoter John Harding.
But more recently Nigel has found himself more and more involved in the remixing and production side of the industry, crafting the tunes that he and other DJs regular use to devastating effect on the dancefloor.  He is no newcomer to the studio though having already had a number of big tracks under his belt.  It started back in 2004 when he collaborated with the mighty JDS on a track called “Purple Funky Monkey” which was released on legendary breaks label TCR.  This was followed up in 2005 with a track called “Don’t Mean Shit” which was released by Free2Air Recordings and a collaboration with Soul Seekerz to create the track “Turn Me Upside Down” which, after getting massive support on Radio 1 in the UK, went on to become a single for pop queen Dannii Minogue under the name “Perfection”.
2006 and 2007 saw two more releases with “Awake Or Dreaming” (on Phonetic Recordings) and “The Gritt” (on Seb Fontaine’s Monotype label) but it was in 2008 that Nigel started on his current path.  Teaming up with Soul Seekerz member Simon Langford (using his Johnny Pinkfinger alter-ego), Nigel worked on his first commercial pop remix for the legendary Cyndi Lauper on her Sony BMG released single “Into The Nightlife”.  It marked a turning point for Nigel and one which would finally set him on the road he had been aiming for for so long.
Over the next 2 years Nigel and Simon worked on developing their production style during a very busy and manic time for them both but finally, towards the middle of 2010, things finally started to take shape.  They set up FTC Recordings as a home for the their releases and put out a string of three hugely well received original tracks which started to build their profile and bring the Mihell & Pinkfinger name to the world.  In 2011 the duo started to forge some new relationships and the first real fruit of these new contacts comes in the form of their remix of Skylar Grey’s “Invisible” which is set to be released late in July 2011.
On the back of this the pair are already getting a number of remix enquiries as well as booking requests for DJ gigs all across Europe and North America.  It seems like the biggest problem facing Mihell & Pinkfinger in the near future will be how to manage to fit everything in in a very limited 7 days per week!
