Since his early days as a resident at the legendary Montreal afterhours club Stereo, Maher Daniel has been a stalwart in the world of minimal-leaning house music. It was there that he learned and mastered the foundations of his style: deep melodies, rolling beats, extended mixes, all put together with a wash of psychedelia. 

Following a move to Barcelona, the Palestinian-Canadian DJ more firmly struck out on his own, appearing on Lee Burridge's world-conquering All Day I Dream label before starting his own, The Other Side, in 2016. The Other Side has become an important outpost for a kind of dance music that blends old-school microhouse sensibilities with the rolling basslines and three-dimensional sound design of Rominimal, notably through a series of collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos with the <a href=/reviews/24551><i>Changes</i></a> EP trilogy.

During the pandemic, Daniel also started dipping his toes into ambient music, which starts off this epic, three-hour-plus mix before it plunges into rolling rhythms. He takes the time to stretch out here, mixing plenty of his own work with tracks from Jesper Dahlbäck, Cristi Cons, Dexter and, of course, Ricardo Villalobos, ending with a stunning custom breakbeat edit of Global Communication's ambient techno epic "14:31."

Born in Poland and raised in Detroit, Magda's realm as an artist spans far beyond the typical role of DJ and producer, as she's also involved in music technology collaborations and events to producing premium Tequila - creating a truly unique, multifaceted expression of herself. When she's behind the decks, you'll never know what to expect: her wide selection spans from old-school house grooves into more hard and trippy electro tunes, all together into a formidable arsenal of electronic beats. Recently, Magda has produced and performed alongside T.B. Arthur as Blotter Trax, combining modular synthesis, live improvisation and rhythmic exploration. What's next? Christopher Ledger & Soms brought us a 74 mins music podcast with their unique and special touch. Somewhere between elegance, melancholia and yearning a silver lining of hope.

These two italian guys met up back in the 2014 in the wonderful city of Milan where Soms had just graduated at SAE while Christopher was studying music programmation (Max/MSP) and history and philosophy of music and art in a specialized institution.

Being both multidisciplinary artists and once having introduced each other to their approach and vision on art, the connection was instantaneous and kept growing in a very natural way as time passed.

Their collaboration goes on since several months and after different audio results, file exchanges and long talks on their visions and interests, they feel ready to put out their works anytime soon, releasing music mostly together but keeping their single artistic names.

In anticipation of our next event at Shelter with Margaret Dygas, we would like to share with you a little nostalgia inducing souvenir from our previous event with Ricardo Villalobos. Our very own Reiss had the challenging task of setting the mood during the opening hours of night that so many were looking forward to. Slowly building up the vibe and tension in the room, while anticipation for the appearance of our guest of honour was gradually progressing towards its apex. Brother in beats Ferro upped the levels during his set and when Ricardo finally appeared in the booth, the energy in the room was electrifying before the man even played his first record. The rest is history.

Darlings, this is my first home recorded podcast since the mix for Fuse, quite a few years back. The Loser Records Berlin posse pushed me to record one and I happily surrendered. I played for them at the Wilde Renate at the end of February. It was one of the last gigs before, well, things unfolded.
The atmosphere at the packed club was outstanding and the boys and girls from Loser were lovely company, I felt very well cared for.

I am very happy with the mix. I hope you enjoy it as I do.
