Following @ecoutesauvert's output for a while, @axelhaxel contacted us to see if we will be up to releasing this mix via our Soundcloud. A quick listen and the rest is history! 📡

AXEL H & CAO BRAVO presents: El Mundo de Quilca

Peru, a country with a rich geographic and cultural diversity, is mostly known to the international music community as the epicenter of cumbia and its psychedelic variants. Unknown to most, a handful of groups have experimented with sounds related to disco and synth-pop in the 80s that were unpopular at the time and thus have mostly been forgotten over the years. 

@axelhaxel (@kitchensessions_int), an epidemiologist and collector residing in Lima, has spent the last 6 years digging records in Quilca, a small and dusty gallery in the center of Lima with improvised vinyl stalls, as well as sourcing records from elsewhere across Peru.

Sharing a common interest to explore Peruvian "Disco" output, Axel has teamed up with @caobravo, a surgeon and well-respected record collector across Latin America, to record “El Mundo de Quilca” a vinyl-only mix of neglected and often impossible-to-find Peruvian disco gems, exploring a variety of different styles, moods, and energy levels. 

Some of the tracks in this mix will be featured in an upcoming compilation to be released in early 2023 on @buhrecords, a Peruvian label run and curated by Luis Alvarado, who has provided valuable insights into this mix.

"I’m Hendrik Stein. A DJ and record collector from Berlin who’s been around since a while now. You might have seen me playing in one of the countless clubs of the city or know me from our Past Forward-Shows on Cashmere Radio or the Ciao Amore Baci Parties which I run with my partner in music and life Frinda di Lanco. 
After my recent excursions into lush ambient and balearic soundscapes during the pandemic years, I felt it’s time to record something more danceable and this is how this mix happened. Since the clubs reopened last year I had some chances to play some more electronic sets in some bigger venues and so I rediscovered some older Freestyle and Hip-House records, which I almost forgot about. After digging mostly meditative and laid-back organic stuff during the corona-years this was a quite relieving experience. So recently I developed some kind of obsession for more danceable Belgian and French synth-pop from the late 80’s and latin-infused House and Italo which really blew my mind. Bringing this together into a mix has been on my bucket list since quite a while and for some reason I always thought this might be a very good sound for the H.A.N.D.s mix series. In the end the recording session happened quite naturally and since I hadn’t prepared a playlist some Austro/German dance-obscurities"

Finally we got to the anniversary mix in our series and thanks to our new guest, producer and dj Bogdan Ra, who is currently based in Istanbul, we are happy to present the 11th episode.
You may have heard his edits, remixes and own tracks on his Bandcamp and Soundcloud, if not, we highly recommend listening this.
In the meantime, let's introduce the mix - we are incredibly happy that now in our guest collection there is a mix consisting of New Jack Swing, RnB and the rhythm that was often on MTV back in the days. Truly Night Lovers.

Arguably unknown yet to many, the french collective nonetheless made a name for themselves among the most refined aesthetes through their infamous youtube channel. Promoting cool small parties and unveiling digs of the highest class, they're slowly but surely gaining a wider audience in Paris and beyond, We're glad to shine a light on the guys with this awesome mix accurately representing what they can play in party-mode.
