Besides running their highly renowned music blog on Instagram (@sonicparadisemusic) with featured posts by avant-garde selectors, they have released their debut EP last month: SLOW DANCE. Delighted to host Arne Bunjes Influence mix on Oddity Radio for @themes-for-great-cities

Arne Bunjes : The Mix I made draws its inspiration from the moment I began to go out at night regularly, when I moved to Düsseldorf to Study Social Work at the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf.

In my hometown my musical Influences were US Punk/Hardcore, Hip Hop and whatever pop music was hot on local Radio or MTV. After randomly ending up at the Salon des Amateurs (in the early noughties) where the music was completely different I started to dig deeper: going out at night then trying to find what I was hearing in flea-markets and record stores. 

SDA became the main Influence in my musical life as well as being a huge Influence in starting the record label.

The Mix tries to showcase the musical spectrum at the Salon in these early days, from my perspective: the 2007-2011 era! This is different to the sound that came later and for which most people identify what Detlef Weinrich aka Tolouse Low Trax was playing. But of course other regulars like Vladimir Ivkovic or Tako where also a huge inspiration.

These are the tracks that I heard there, liked the most and wanted to include in my collection. I came back to them with joy each time and started to play them myself. Although most of them are not super obscure I don't hear them getting played out anymore. They are mostly real tracks, not specifically made for the dancefloor.

AXEL H & CAO BRAVO presents: El Mundo de Quilca

Peru, a country with a rich geographic and cultural diversity, is mostly known to the international music community as the epicenter of cumbia and its psychedelic variants. Unknown to most, a handful of groups have experimented with sounds related to disco and synth-pop in the 80s that were unpopular at the time and thus have mostly been forgotten over the years. 

@axelhaxel (@kitchensessions_int), an epidemiologist and collector residing in Lima, has spent the last 6 years digging records in Quilca, a small and dusty gallery in the center of Lima with improvised vinyl stalls, as well as sourcing records from elsewhere across Peru.

Sharing a common interest to explore Peruvian "Disco" output, Axel has teamed up with @caobravo, a surgeon and well-respected record collector across Latin America, to record “El Mundo de Quilca” a vinyl-only mix of neglected and often impossible-to-find Peruvian disco gems, exploring a variety of different styles, moods, and energy levels. 

Some of the tracks in this mix will be featured in an upcoming compilation to be released in early 2023 on @buhrecords, a Peruvian label run and curated by Luis Alvarado, who has provided valuable insights into this mix.

In the new episode of Night Lovers mixes, we are pleased to present the mix of our friend and vinyl selector Forgotten Disco Star. Anatoliy currently lives in Germany and has been involved in music, collecting records, and working on his own record store @soundhoundrecordstore for many years.

In this mix of street soul, downtempo, AOR, synth pop and house, Anatoly was inspired by his favorite compilations of his youth from early 2000s, such as LateNiteTales and Back To Mine. Rare finds that perfectly complement each other, you can literally fly away.
