Born, raised, and based in Patras, Greece, Alexskyspirit’s experience with the decks started in the early 00s in his hometown clubs and bars, blending his early influences of dark, progressive house with psychedelic trance. As he gradually honed his production skills and started shaping his musical identity, he shared the stage with some well-established names over those years, such as Edit Select, Keith Carnal, Charlotte De Witte, Dax J, Oxia, and Robert Dietz. His self-released and label-released material caught the attention of respected individuals from a broad techno spectrum, the likes of Amelie Lens, Joris Voorn, Abstract Division, Fabio Florido, Pan Pot, Deepbass, Ness, Claudio PRC, and Blazej Malinowski, who played his tracks on various occasions. Finally, this can also be a perfect example of how his sound shaped where he stands as a producer now.

Urodzony, wychowany i mieszkający w Patras w Grecji Alexskyspirit swoją przygodę z deckami rozpoczął na początku lat 2000 w klubach i barach w swoim rodzinnym mieście, łącząc wczesne wpływy mrocznego, progresywnego house'u z psychodelicznym transem. W miarę jak stopniowo doskonalił swoje umiejętności produkcyjne i zaczął kształtować swoją muzyczną tożsamość, dzielił scenę z kilkoma dobrze ugruntowanymi nazwiskami w tamtych latach, takimi jak Edit Select, Keith Carnal, Charlotte De Witte, Dax J, Oxia i Robert Dietz. TENO is rooted in minimal and straightforward techno, meticulously constructing a rhythm with deep, oscillating basslines and a rhythmic, minimal groove at the top. He passionately and stoically plays music to the point where sound and body become one. His tracks leverage the analog sounds of modular synths and have been released in five countries including Japan, Germany, Spain, the UK, and Canada. This year, he announced a release from Room Trax, based in Berlin/Barcelona. On August 23, 2022, he established his techno label "Aum Recordings". To celebrate the 1stEP release, his DJ set was live-streamed both domestically and internationally from SUPER DOMMUNE in Shibuya, Tokyo. On October 26, 2022, he contributed a mix to the Parisian podcast "CONCEPTUAL VIOLENCE". He's successfully hosted events under "Harmonie", inviting top techno artists from around the world. In April 2023, he will be opening for BEN SIMS in Osaka, demonstrating his broad musicality and consistent performance, which is highly regarded both in Japan and abroad.

Jorge, the Madrid-born DJ and producer currently based in Utrecht, has established himself as a prominent figure in the techno music scene. Renowned for his high-quality sonic proposals characterized by deep, hypnotic, and minimal sounds, Jorge stands out as a versatile and passionate artist.

Immersing himself in electronic music at the tender age of 14, Jorge Fons embarked on his journey into DJing, delving into production at 17. Engaging with the diverse styles within techno, he discovered his essence in hypnotic sounds while maintaining a love for exploring and producing different musical styles. A master of both vinyl and digital formats, Jorge's primary focus remains on delivering a hypnotic and deep musical experience.

Jorge Fons has contributed to several EPs and compilation albums on established labels such as Nechto, Luminal, Out of Place, Diffuse Reality, and Immaterial Archives. Notably, Jorge founded his label, JFNS, a year ago, providing a platform for both local and international talents to share their unique perspectives.

Episode 03: Badmarien

Our third instalment sees us lost in a harsh yet beautiful wintery landscape. One that is storm haggard, where barren ice sheets crack under strain from the elemental pummel. Such scenes you will encounter in this hour of tense and hypnotic techno from Leeds resident Badmarien. A mix where dark atmospheres dominate and light casts itself only briefly amongst the shifting grooves and rhythm work.

Badmarien's approach to mixing is derived from a more classically orientated musical background, focused on exposing the tactile and experimental. This makes total sense for someone who has recently finished a PhD in the Philosophy of Art and Psychology of Sensory Evaluation.

As a local who has attended multiple Portal events and voiced a passion for the sounds that we too love, we were delighted to invite Badmarien to share this mix with us. So wrap up, blow into those palms, and take a bold step into that cold embrace that awaits.

The third release on Quintessence is the debut single by @yaroslavikonnikov, a promo resident who has recently immersed himself in producing.

Musically, the track Unpacked Karma is inspired by the aesthetics of low-tech, hypnotic and trance. Dense palisade bass, analog modulations, dreamy arpeggios and non-standard percussion pattern — that's the sound on our agenda.

Author's comment:

"For me, it's the soundtrack of an inner, deep journey. Sometimes it feels like an endless and pointless running in circles, but it's not. Each new entry is getting rid of excess and pretense, from all this bug—eyed fuss that prevents our mighty spiritual principle from manifesting."
