Succubass - Live at Nowadays, November '22

Editions Mego presents The Psychologist, the sophomore album by the Istanbul born and raised, Berlin based electronic music composer and sound artist Hüma Utku.

As the title suggests, The Psychologist, is a series of sonic essays based around themes of psychological phenomena and can be read as a musical enquiry into the human condition. With Utku’s background as a graduate of Psychology and her current practice as a conceptual music composer we see the two main threads in her professional career intertwine on this unique and ambitious release.

Including recordings of Buchla 200 from Utku’s Elektronmusikstudion residency in October 2020,The Psychologist is a genre aversive work that embodies elements of synthesiser music, electroacoustic, experimental techno, industrial, modern composition and spoken word. Piano, string compositions and vocals hold weight throughout a number of pieces providing a dramatic acoustic edge to the psychological explorations contained within.

The foreboding mood of much of this release is the product of investigation that lends the unsettling theme of anticipatory grief to the mood of the tracks Light of All Lights and Continuing Bonds. Islands of Consciousness refers to Jungian metaphor for consciousness whilst the unnerving Rüya twists around dream analysis in Gestalt psychology. Fuel For The Flames proceeds as a buzzing and swirling representation of alchemy and psychological symbolism. Dissolution of I is haunted by a strange sensation of dissociation whilst defense mechanisms support the sublime Sublimation. The bright shapes of Chironian Wound represent archetypes and analytical psychology whilst the fried soundscapes and rhythms of Ataxia encapture neurological states.

The results unravel with both the clockwork rhythms of the human body and the unpredictable nature of the psyche, the pieces follow arrhythmic patterns in a harmonious way. It tells the raw and intimate story of the human experience with a new work whereby the predictable operates in parallel with the unexpected and like human experience itself, is dark and complex.

Funeral Parade Of Roses is a multimedia project that makes use of audio, text, illustration and performance by A.E. and her various co-conspirators. Funeral Parade Of Roses is an attempt to synthesize various forms of expression into a document of the decadent, hostile and anarchic current which has influenced a projectual life.
NYC-based singer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer Heidi Sabertooth has been creating her unique brand of grit-laced drum loops and vintage acid since 2012, pushing out beautiful noise, from the delicate to the jarring. She’s a resident of Lost Soul Enterprises and has produced tracks featured on labels such as New York Trax, BPitch Control, Lobster Theremin, Earwiggle, Jacktone and more.

New year, new sounds! Introducing Truancy Sessions, our latest mix series dedicated to elevating the underground music scene. With eight episodes per season, we'll be looking to amplify the voices of emerging DJs and longtime Truants friends, all while collaborating with talented designers and artists. Our mission is to cultivate connections and celebrate people with an ear for music from every corner of the globe, be it people we've seen on our travels to friends we've made at festivals and clubs. For our first season, we'll be collaborating with the exceptional designer Kushagra for all things artwork, and for our debut episode we have a seamless blend of mesmerizing grooves from San Francisco-based suade (@whoissuade) for a transportive musical experience. Here's a glimpse into what suade has in store:

"This mix is a cruise through some records I know I’ll love forever - rolling, percussive, driving, and euphoric sounds. Put it on for a nice drive, a long run, getting ready for a party, or maybe just to hype up your work day. I spend a lot of time in the shapeshifting, hyperactive world of bass-driven music and I have an equal love for timeless grooves, long blends, and dreamy sounds. Sometimes these feel like mutually exclusive worlds as a DJ. The latter is what I’m reaching for these days, in a slow and reflective period of my life, and what I bring to the mix. It consists mainly of records from the mid 90s to early 2000s with some newer releases sprinkled in there. I decided to avoid maximalism and opt for a steady ride through a few key ideas. I’ve been wanting to record something like this for a while, so I’m super grateful and happy to be sharing it here. Broadcast 33 starts with a short feature of the superb LP release by Marie Davidson Adieux au Dancefloor. Out on Cititrax, Adieux au Dancefloor is her most seminal work, exploring her POV of dance music and culture through her beautifully sculpted productions. 

Afterwards is an in-depth discussion about the past and present of Industrial music with Nine (Nihar Bhatt). As one fourth of the Surface Tension collective and through his own productions, Bhatt has been heavily involved in the local scene for several years and as an insightful perspective on how industrial music has impacted techno music today. He finishes the show with a lush mix of current artists who use the industrial ethos in their own music. Enjoy.
