My personal favorite from my 2016 works. I listened to lots of atmospheric black metal at the time I made this, and the influence can be heard in blast beats and tremolo riffs. Made in 2016 with Ableton Live 9.

The Last Glow of the Setting Sun

Winter Sunrise

This is my first piece of music with vocals, based on my poem of the same title.

Lyrics:

I remember your first moments,
When with eyelids still half-open
You felt the cold air brush your cheeks.

I remember your first cold nights
When clouds were the only thing you had
In common with others, and all ears were shut
Against the muffled sounds of summer rain
Falling drop by drop from your face.

I remember the ghosts of death
That have been following your footsteps ever since
You took your first breath with half-open eyelids.

I remember the blissful depths of winter
Under the nocturnal rivers dripping down
On your eyes, revealing the everlasting truth,
Or with the heaven’s mirror as your companion
Whose light seemed a beacon of salvation.

I remember the first stain on your temple
Bearing the hues of every sunrise and sunset
You had gone through; a little crack on a pillar
From which the unsaid poured out silently
And spoke through crimson patterns in the sky.

I remember the ghosts of death
That have been following your footsteps ever since
You took your first breath with half-open eyelids.

And now I see you slowly walking towards me
To recognise my heart beating in your rhythm
And the same old cracks that can never mend;
To realise that I am you and you are me,
That we have been separated for so long.

And so we stand here looking back on our path
After all those sunrises and sunsets
And the air that changes its colour as years go by;
Here we stand, still we breathe, torn apart
But never letting the curtains fall on our skyward eyes.

Now that you are one with me I know:
It does not matter what we can remember
Nor what our fate has ordained for us;
We are alive, we are ourselves,
And it is all that matters.
