Spark N Cinder was formed in January 1976 in Chico, CA when The Butte Creek Family band and Jack Straw, which originated in Jersey City, NJ, joined up to become a local phenomenon, which to this day has an unequivocal effect on Chico culture.

Spark N' Cinder's music is multi rhythmic. They were one of the first American bands to play the reggae beat in the early seventies. Samba, R&B, Funk, Afro Beat, Latin, and what can only be described as Spark N' Cinder rhythms create the fusion dance music they're known for. 

In Spark N' Cinder's storied history they have opened shows for many notable American musicians, including Bob Dylan, Taj Mahal, David Lindley, as well as Jamaican bands like Kulture, Mighty Diamonds, Eek-A-Mouse, Mutabaruka, and Marcia Griffiths with Sly & Robbie. They have appeared at festivals with countless notable bands and artists, including the Mother Hips & Cuba Libre. 

The Spark N' Cinder impact on Chico and the surrounding communities has been and will always be significant. They are the recipient of approximately 30 awards for music and community support.
