A new song I wrote yesterday..recorded on my phone but think I will work on it some more and record it properly. It is about my struggle with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and coming to terms with not being able to do the things I once did, living with a chronic pain illness and my realisation that I will now have to live my life differently to how I once did.

I miss walking within nature, I miss dancing in the rain
But those simple things that brought such joy now amplifies the pain

And in the grand scheme of things I know I’m insignificant
But I wanted to be formidable, I wanted to be magnificent.

I’m trapped behind my faded shadow, the ghost of who I’d been
Within this broken shell I wear, I mourn for all my dreams

I am the lonely warrior in this very personal war of mine
But sometimes it’s not the fight I lose, it’s all that precious time.

Life goes on outside my door and I long for an adventure
My soul is free and young at heart but my body is a traitor

But I’m starting to learn to live again and discover who I am
As the person I once was has gone and it’s only me that can

Sometimes I think I understand that my journey is a lesson
To teach compassion and empathy and to be a better person

I’ve grown in many ways, no longer taking life for granted
And I’m travelling a very different road that’s far from where I started

But these curve balls that are thrown and dropped are becoming second nature
But I’m learning to take the power back and maybe, just maybe this is my adventure.

What, you need more? Well, what if we said that she writes and performs heartfelt acoustic songs, sometimes by herself and sometimes with any number of passing musician friends who may be in the vicinity? Do we need to say she’s shared stages with the likes of Supergrass, Roisin Murphy, Level 42, The Pogues, Tom Robinson, Scott Matthews and Nerina Pallot, at venues like Wolves Civic Hall, The Robin 2 and Birmingham’s Glee Club?

You’re desperate to know how this came about? Is it a necessity to describe how Nikki attended London Stage School, was trained as a dancer and classical singer and simply taught herself guitar at a scant 16 years old, then began gigging in between terms? Or how helping at local music nights led to her starting a music production company to promote upcoming live bands?

So you wonder what she’s doing currently? Would this be what she does in between being a parent, playing gigs, writing new material, cycling through a hairstyle every week, designing and wearing tattoos and getting burley men with wrenches to fix her ailing motor vehicle?

Do you need to know that she’s inspired by Ani Difranco, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Damien Rice, PJ Harvey, Radiohead and Portishead, and will happily take you all on in an online Call Of Duty session?
