Murge's Magic Hour - 09.10.21

Just in time for spooky season we've got a proper deep and dark 140 session for the 82nd Sublimix from our friend Mandala Ataksak from the woods of New Brunswick, Canada. She's been a strong ambassador of the dubstep sound for over a decade as a selector and stream manager for dubplate.fm as well as standing tall as a strong proponent for bringing up femme and non-binary artists in the underground bass scene. She's got no time for you bullshit if you're not working to build a more inclusive scene for those underrepresented. 

Keep your eyes and ears on this one, as she is a force to be reckoned with. Crank your cans and/or speakers. This is serious head down business.

"This mix has gone through quite an evolution and means a lot to me personally. It started out as a jam session recorded on turntables for my dear friend Rhombi’s birthday. I ended up really digging the recording, listening to it quite a bit and using a number of the mixes in my 2021 festival sets. I had a fucking blast working with this music over the summer and it’s a real pleasure to leave this mix here in its final form with Sublimate. This was my first time recording on CDJs. I’m a hard-core turntables bitch but decided to push myself to record on different gear. It was refreshing and fun as hell to smash upon those buttons! Big ups to all the incredibly talented producers that I have included in this mix. Huge love and gratitude to those of you supporting and listening. Earth Frequency Festival, what a time!! It was such an honour to play opening night on the main stage, words cannot describe how grateful I am for this experience and how pivotal performing for the first time here was.

Huge thank you to the organisers and crew who worked so hard to bring this festival to life, and to everyone losing their shit on the dance-floor. After years of cancelled events this is exactly what my soul needed.

LOVE Cafe at Texas Eclipse

As I stepped onto the Earth Stage at the Texas Eclipse Festival 2024, a rush of excitement flooded through me. It was an honor beyond words to have the opportunity to share my music with the vibrant souls gathered under the canopy of Texas skies. Little did I know that the next few hours would be a journey of transcendence, as the energy of the crowd surged and swirled around us.

The crowd began as a humble gathering, but as the beats echoed through the air, it seemed to grow exponentially, swelling to a couple of thousand souls united by their love for music and the promise of connection. It was as if the very essence of the festival came alive in that moment, pulsating with anticipation and possibility.

As I delved into my set, the energy of the crowd became palpable, a tangible force that seemed to weave its way through the air, connecting each person in a shared experience of euphoria. The music served as our conduit, guiding us on a journey of exploration and self-discovery.

With each beat, each melody, the energy began to coalesce into a tribal frenzy, a rhythmic dance of heaving souls seeking enlightenment through the transformative power of sound. It was a beautiful chaos, a symphony of movement and emotion that transcended language and culture.

As the night unfolded, I found myself lost in the moment, swept up in the collective energy of the crowd. Together, we danced beneath the stars, our spirits soaring as we surrendered ourselves to the music, to each other, and to the magic of the festival.

The next day, in those fleeting hours, time seemed to stand still as we basked in the glow of the Texas Eclipse, our hearts and minds open to the infinite possibilities that lay before us.  I knew that I had experienced something truly special—a moment of pure connection and communion that would stay with me long after the festival had ended.

Performing at the Texas Eclipse Festival 2024 was more than just a gig; it was a privilege, a gift, a chance to be a part of something greater than myself. And as I stepped off the stage, heart full and soul alight, I knew that I would carry the memory of that night with me forever, a reminder of the power of music to unite, to inspire, and to transform.

Texas Eclipse Festival 2024 Set

A voyage through deep space to inner stillness...

Originally, we had prepared to share this meditative sonic experience at the Texas Eclipse Festival just before sundown after the eclipse. Mother Nature had other plans, and after parting the clouds to let us marvel in totality, she sent a storm our way, ending the festival early and sending us back to Austin. There we were blessed with the perfect space to share this cosmic journey. 

After weeks of rehearsing and a truly transformative time at the festival, it was a fitting end to gather with family, friends, and fellow eclipse chasers in the auditorium of @casadeluz_atx for this much-needed integration. Whether you attended the festival or not, we hope you enjoy this 90-minute voyage - a collaboration between @jacqui.mateo and @__souland__ featuring the gong, vocals, and space cello. Listen to the set however you feel called - but if you can find a comfortable space to sit or lay down with headphones or nice speakers and close your eyes we’d recommend it.
