Flash Atkins has pulled in Charlie Sinclair, singer from one of Manchester's hottest new bands, Sylvette for a collaboration that promises to be the start of something special.  The track has already been gathering heat, with Bill Brewster calling it 'one of his favourite house records of 2017' and reports of it rocking ALFOS and The Warehouse Project.

The original has a throbbing sub over clipped techy drums, muted guitar and an incessant Moog riff.  But the killer punch is Charlie Sinclair's soulful, intimate vocals that sit beautifully over the music.  The groove is locked and builds to the break where a hint of disco hits the floor before the final section brings in the bells to devastating effect.  The end result is a track that is destined to knock socks off in the coming months.  You were warned. 

Sean Johnston liked it so much he asked to do a remix and the result is everything you would expect from the Hardway Brothers.  He keeps the original elements but toughens things up with added oomph, taking it in a proto house and techno direction.  

Finally Tal M. Klein strips the track back to it's bare basics with devastating effect. Just a kick, the guitar and serious compression provide space for the tripped out vocal and a truly psychedelic deep house experience.

This release continues the ‘Soma 20’ connection with Glaswegian Pablo’s tracks ‘Stratus’ and ‘Turn the page’ remixed by Andrew Weatherall and Alex Under. 

Pablo’s music brought another diverse element to the Soma output and his idiosyncratic sound was captured on 2009 album ‘Turntable Technology’.  The original releases blended sampling, scatological hip-hop style and elaborately balanced beats to produce something highly original and admired by many other DJs. These earlier releases also enabled Pablo to become a musical presence in the 'Grand Theft Auto' franchise. 


Andrew Weatherall and Alex Under have taken on the task of remixing two of Pablo’s most notable tracks, and the innovative sounds provide great resource for the stylistically deviant DJs. Their subsequent reworking here unleashes a powerful incorporation of style and innovation, matching source material and a new perspective to create highly successful collaborations. 

Andrew Weatherall’s remix of ‘Stratus’ is a striking interpretation of the original. Initial momentum is thrust through the track with a heavy and deep bass at the outset. When the driving rhythmic aspects of the track subside somewhat an intricate and compelling electro sound adds a retrospective feel  with references to eighties synth music and older production styles using particular patches and effect-laden guitar sweeps etc. to create a layered and affecting track. The percussive scope of the remix is enhanced by the inclusion of Bongos, Djembe etc. supplementing the physicality of the rhythm. As the track draws to an end the sound begins to reveal a darker undertone and more industrial possibilities for the track are alluded to. This remix manages to maintain originality whilst taking a wholly different angle on the track and supplies another unique track.

‘Turn the page’ was a track which initially identified the unique ability of Pablo to merge many elements of sound, sampling, production and spoken word. Although often working in a very different manner Alex Under chose to create his own version of this track, challenging the boundaries of his previous productions. Given the multitude of individual factors in the original there could be real difficulty in forging a dynamic and personal sound. Alex Under however, has managed to put his unique stamp on this track and the Turn the page remix contains both a reverent nod to the original track and an individualistic new creation. Some of the vibrant and obscure sounds of the original are drawn on to heighten beats and add depth to the core of the track; taking apart the linear arrangement and reintegrating aspects at key points. The narrative aspect of the track, however, remains and Alex Under deals with this spoken word lyricism skilfully, enjoying something of a departure from his sparser productions and utilising the vocal presence to enhance the emotive quality of the track.

Acid Pauli’s unique brand of organic, psychedelic electronic music has found the perfect home on the label he runs with Nico Stojan. 
Mainacht, the latest release, sees Martin Gretschmann in playful mood - the title track skips along in a breezy, upbeat fashion, peppered with bass licks, congas and synth squiggles - an aural pick-me-up for our times. 
Ahmed locks into a groove from the start, fully utilizing Gretschmann’s knack for accentuating the space between the notes. Using only a few elements he creates a powerful moment of euphoric excitement. 
Legends of Saturn again sees the maestro exploring various bass guitar tones and patterns, creating a track 
that balances a live feel with perfectly shaped electronics. 
Completing the EP, Abrains is cut from the same cloth - a bouncy groove meets trippy effects and melodic snippets suspended in space.

Off the back of their sold out album, Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca are set to release a limited run 12" featuring remixes of the highest order. 'Complotto Geometrico', 'Space Scribble' & 'A TV Show' are the tracks of choice, remixed by none other than Andy Weatherall, Prins Thomas and Luke Solomon respectively.

The Weatherall remix initiates with a gentle bounce. The synth lines begin to peak and trough whilst back-drafted guitar riffs ring home around the affected vocal sample that oozes in. A subtle cybernetic atmosphere builds around the melodic rhythm which in turn ebbs and flows through out. It’s seeping with that Weatherall magic, making it perfect for any time of night. 
After his previous collaborations with Lindstrom et. al. we we're very excited to see what Prins Thomas would conjure up for this remix. Cosmic energy instantly emanates from the mix, giving a lighter vibe to the melodic depth that the Weatherall mix delivered. It boasts slightly more acidic elements that switch the dancefloor mentality from 'steady groover' to 'floor-mover.'

To finish, Luke Solomon provides a weirdo-disco rendition, full of elastic synth work, a bumping house groove and plenty of raw soul. Probably the more energetic of the three, Solomon proves that he deserves his place as Disco House royalty.

KOMPAKT welcomes back Copenhagen’s WhoMadeWho. Tomas Barfod’s penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Tomas Høffding and Jeppe Kjellberg’s respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, gives their music an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying. 

Though we both have yet to strike a note together since the release of their 2012 full length “Brighter” (KOM 254), WhoMadeWho have been remarkably productive. With two full lengths, a DJ mix for Watergate’s series and releasing two of 2019’s most played out club tracks together with Rampa (Innervisions) and Artbat (Watergate Records), the trio have found themselves diving more and more into the world of electronic music, tapping into their goldmine of connections within the scene to spearhead an array of collaborations. 

Synchronicity is all about ‘meaningful coincidences’ – bringing interpretation to bear on connections that have no actual causal relationship. It’s a canny concept to pin onto Copenhagen trio WhoMadeWho’s latest album, which sees them return to Kompakt for the first time since 2012’s Brighter.

This re-established connection helps us to understand the synchronicity at play, the way that the WhoMadeWho core ave built an album around collaboration with friends and peers, much as Kompakt is all about cross-connections and family. On Synchronicity, WhoMadeWho call on friends old and new – Michael Mayer, Echonomist, Adana Twins, Alex Boman, Robag Wruhme, Frank Wiedemann, Sainte Vie, Mano Le Tough, Marc Piñol, Rebolledo, and Perel is the cast list; WhoMadeWho direct the material, shaping it into one lovingly flowing gem of dance-pop glory.

There’s something particularly generous about hearing an album as all-inclusive and open-hearted as Synchronicity in the midst of the profound social and cultural shifts we’re currently experiencing. While some songs on Synchronicity were recorded together, in real time, such as the collaborations with Adana Twins and Rebolledo, most of them have taken place via long distance, thanks to the pandemic lockdown. But you don’t need to know who was where to understand either the magnesium-flare melancholy of “Sooner”, recorded with Piñol, which has you holding your breath with the gentle thrill of the song’s lush melody, or the stomping strut of the following Adana Twins collaboration, “Shadow Of Doubt”.

Elsewhere, there’s the stentorian robot voice at the heart of “Hamstring”, where they’re joined by Michael Mayer; the lustrous headsoak of “Twenty Tears”, a tender intervention by Rebolledo; the strip-light, slow-motion disco strut of “Cecil”, produced alongside Echonomist; or the glittering, arpeggio dreamwork that Perel helps sculpt into shape on “Der Abend birgt keine Ruh.”… Really, there’s so much to celebrate here, a panoply of pleasures. From pop revelations to dancefloor delirium to slow-burning brooders, Synchronicity is just that; a space for the joys of the unexpected to collide, and to be given meaning by their coincidental co-existence in WhoMadeWho’s beautiful world.
