'Float Like a Butterfly' is part of the "Seconds Out' Cultural Olympiad project and commissioned by Theatre Royal Newcastle. This 11 minute audio visual piece explores connections between the movements and discipline of dance and boxing and premiered at the Itzik Galili performance event with Danza Contemporánea de Cuba at Dance City in July 2010. 

The piece features the amazing performers from Danza Contemporánea de Cuba in Havana, Cuba whilst they rehearse. An inspiration to watch, muchas gracias for allowing access to see these artists in their inner sanctum.. 

This edits show also shows the final section. 
The live performed version of the commission features a solo flamenco guitar finale by Francisco Javier Bethencourt Llobet. This starts from 4:40 and as such this part includes no video.

'A specially-commissioned, looped, animated projection celebrating the centenary of the Spanish City Dome'.

Presented: Friday 10th and Saturday 11th December 6pm-9pm. Spanish City Dome, Whitley Bay, free.

Diversión was a striking, abstract and evocative reflection of bygone days at Spanish City's Dome. This looping audio-visual animation combined graphical elements, photography and muted 'aged' imagery to convey a fairground aesthetic that related to the building's surface via video mapping techniques. The whole building was filled with vibrant colours bringing this restored landmark to life in a totally unique way.

Number Three: Privy

This bespoke audio visual work has as its central themes loss, exposure, anonymity, secrecy and catharsis. Name (part of NOVAK Collective) developed this as a work in progress via their Lumen events and the finished work premiered at 2020 at the AV Festival 2006. it has since been performed in London and Geneva at the mapping Festival. Technical assistance on the Privy soundtrack came from sound artist James Postlethwaite.

Number Three: Privy (soundtrack)

A first collaboration between Nik Barrera and James Postlethwaite, this was a soundtrack for a dance project. It combined DJ'd sections, FX, additional edits, production, samples and musical elements.
Audio comes from Steve Reich, Bernard Hermann, Jaws S/T, Watership Down S/T, Prince and the poetry of Langston Hughes.

Hairy Tales (soundtrack)

This is the official music 'Keep Your Feet Still' composed by Paul Ruddick, Hannabiell Sanders and the Mardi Gras team

School children and public performers will dance to this music at the launch of ¡VAMOS! Festival 2014.

¡VAMOS! Sonidos - Volume 1: Hybrid Dimensions

¡VAMOS!  Sonidos, a new musical project from the organisers of ¡VAMOS! in partnership with global producer, artist and International DJ Selectorchico™   have produced a new compilation album which strives to represent original Latin music that breaks free of stereotypes and traditions. 
The album named ‘Hybrid Dimensions’ launches during ¡VAMOS!  Festival and showcases leftfield expressions that defy strict genre-categorisation and go beyond the stereotypes usually associated with Latin American music. 

Produced Selectorchico™ whose real name is Nandy Cabrera and who currently curates a recognised party in Uruguay called ‘Subtropical’ said: “There is generally a wide use of some stereotypes and misconceptions that tend to narrow Latin American music down to one dimensional clichés.  I want to bring a more broader view to the album, like a portal to another dimension album; a hybrid one in fact.” 

The album features tracks from Joseph Ibrahin who lives near the Atlantic beaches of Rocha Uruguay where Solarmobile is located; a solar powered studio setup and is surrounded by natural woodland. 

Selectorchico™ who embarked upon on a European tour last year to promote his project Revisitando Macondo; a discovery of the roots of subtropical music said: 

“Surrounded by nature, Joseph produces a unique kind of music that has been influenced by people like Eduardo Mateo who fused tradition and folklore with much broader, diverse and even psychedelic influences.  The track itself includes a collaboration by Argentine synth wizard Ernesto Romeo on mellotron and analog Keyboards; a post-rock track fused with milonga folklore and space-jazz. 

Other artists featured on the album is Atlantico Negro whose track is sung in French by Gahi Traore with Selectorchico™ himself playing Farfisa Organ on the track. 

Artwork for the album has been provided Mexican artist Bayrol Jimenez who carried out a commission in Newcastle as part of the 10th ¡VAMOS! Festival last year. 

Commenting on the album artwork Bayrol said: “It’s part of a series of drawings where I worked on the iconography of monuments. I created imaginary structures using elements of Urban life in Mexico in order to give a different point of view of what is supposed to be a public space.” 

Three of the artists featured on the album including Panther Panther and Sidrium did live sets at the official launch of the album which took place on on Saturday June 11th at ¡VAMOS!  Social; a Newcastle based cultural hub and new home to the annual ¡VAMOS!  Festival. 

Founder of ¡VAMOS!  Social and Director of ¡VAMOS!  Social Nikolas Barrera said: “Working with Nandy to create this album is a natural progression for us. Through ¡VAMOS! Festival we’ve aimed to bring the newest Latin American sounds via our music events yet we've also always had the appetite to create something new out of the festival that anybody, anywhere can access and share as well as representing the concept in live events at ¡VAMOS! Social. 
Over the last ten years we’ve noticed a growing appetite for this type of sound and I'm really proud of the artists that Nandy has curated into this cohesive collection. It's an original, fresh and accessible sound. Perfect for summer 2016!”
