NYX RITUAL LIII - ROTTEN SUN LIVE

Written in February 2015, on the initiative of Ruben De Gheselle and the collective The New What Now.

Two bars out of another piece (already 10 years old) popped up and asked for a brand new start... And so it happened.

While
- contemplating the dubious case called heterophony; 
- asking myself whether expecting to be lyrical can be of any relevance today; 
- and at the same time commemorating the spirit, sincerity, and musicality of Iannis Xenàkis.

The young & restless Pianotrio Lysesco  delivered the première in Ghent:
Domzaal Vooruit, April 1st 2015.

[This piece is semi-improvised and it incorporates stage action, thus it would make sense best while being watched...

Far Cry (2025)

Seven Pebbles (2025) is a playful exploration of the relationship between two distinct modes of perception: structured counting and attentive listening to a soundscape. These modes intertwine within a contemplative, minimalistic framework, as performers move fluidly between them to create a multi-layered sonic texture. 
At the piece's heart is a mantra-like process of counting to seven in Greek, inspired by Tom 
Johnson’s Counting Languages. This continuous thread unfolds alongside the instrumentally 
reconstructed soundscape of a small beach in Heraklion during the winter—a quiet pocket of 
nature within the urban landscape—offering space for interaction, reflection, and memory.
