This is a recording of a talk by Dr. John C. Lilly called 'Models and Beliefs'. A significant portion of this recording consists of repeated words or phrases for use as a 'mantra' or focus of meditative and/or contemplative exercises. Lilly was a pioneering neuroscientist whose work with dolphins led him into deep explorations of his own mind.

Strzał w kolano is a solo project that began with a concert in Lisbon back in 2017 and has recently been revived. The foundation of this project is a classical guitar (tuned quarter-tone) connected via a piezo microphone to separate guitar amplifiers. The signals emanating from the amplifiers are given distinct identities through horizontal and vertical processing or static manipulation within the texture of the sounds themselves.

Conceptually, Majchrzak is captivated by grappling with structures that are unstable, necessary, and unattainable—both controllable and beyond control. For him, composing serves as a method for pinpointing the paradoxes within composition, while improvisation tests the resilience of those paradoxes. It is a way of shaking the structure, acts of self-vandalism performed on the evolving grammar of the piece over time. All this in defense of the digressive nature of musical flow.

I have quite a few of my sound sculptures outside in my garden at the moment. Mostly to create space in my cramped studio, but also to let them get exposed to some weather. Letting nature in, to change them and the way they sound, collecting rain water and going rusty. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday the weather has been sub-zero in the mornings so the sculptures got frozen. I picked a few and took them into the studio to record.

The main body of the track is an idea from a sound installation I did in 2024 called The Trickle. It used an apparent running water sound that was created by playing coins embedded in wood with animal bones. This seemed to fit with the idea of the frozen landscape thawing as the sun came up.

I put some of the sculptures on top of a radiator to melt the ice a bit and then swirled the ice and rain water around inside a sculpture with a tin on it, like ice cubes in a drink.

The sculpture with golden flowers got played with animal bones, just like the coins.

All recorded with contact mics and no effects. A bit of EQing.
