And got some new ideas out of it! Feels a lot more like a complete track now. Still not a great deal of layers going on, but I don't think it needs any more instrumentation. The amount of melodies I've jammed in doesn't leave a lot of breathing room for anything else.

Perplexus Clarinexus

Recomposed and remastered one of my old tracks from the ground up!

This first began as an experiment in blending time signatures together: a 3/4 melodic progression with a classic 4-on-the-floor beat. Strangely enough, it worked perfectly, so I think this is actually 6/4 House track.

So my brain decided that it could make music properly again. I genuinely think I'm better at composing during winter. Juggled all sorts of noise to bring you a Celtic electro-pipe bongo fusion jazz flute wobble odyssey.

I sacrificed all morality to bring you the cheesiest ending in the world. So if you're unhappy when this is over, I will fight you.

Permafrost

This still doesn't feel finished, but it sure feels good. I just wanted to get something up from this project that's has... what... months put into it now?

This is a remix of "You're Izayoi", a piece originally composed by the masters of Treasure games company. The music kicks in when you face off against one of "Dynamite Headdy"'s most powerful foes, The Nasty Gatekeeper. It's just a purely intense track that really gets the blood pumping, and probably one of my favourite video game tracks of all time.

I'll be improving this more and more over the next few weeks but for now... enjoy!

Don't you just hate the brain sometimes?

I started this over a year ago for a video game music project. But during the composition process, I lost my way, got depressed and fell into a lethargic slump of zero musical capabilities. I couldn't finish it before the project deadline.

The project has since gone on to become Harmony of Heroes, the biggest fan collaboration ever. God fucking dammit.

Dawn Of Dusks 2015

NOW THEN. It's been a while! After 3 years of no music-making at all, I was convinced that my best days of composing were behind me. And by the sounds of this, THEY ALMOST CERTAINLY ARE.

When I started this track, I'd been listening to a lot of Opiuo, an Aussie bloke with a talent for deliciously funky fresh tunes. I also felt that if Tarantulas and Centipedes can have their own electronic tribute tracks then why the fuck can't a Platypus? I MEAN JUST LOOK AT HOW CUTE IT IS.

Featuring the eponymous egg-laying legend itself, Sir David Attenborough and the cast of Secret Squirrel, a cartoon show from the '90s. I do what I want.

Platypus

The simple lead arpeggio has been in my head for ages, and I've also wanted to experiment with Celtic progressions in Electro for a while now. Blend together, pour over a crunchy bass and leave to rest for a few days. Garnish with an absolute tonne of automation and serve with a complimentary dubstep breakdown.

Summer Eyes Redux

GUESS WHO'S BACK.

When the precursory nugget of this idea first squeezed itself out of my brain, I'd been listening to a lot of Carpenter Brut. Thrashy, nasty synthwave insanity, like Justice on crack. And I wanted in on the action.

The music that is, not the crack.

One year and six million iterations later, it was almost perfect. Then I met https://soundcloud.com/tommaycock13 and his sick guitar skills. He transposed the notes on my crappy fake guitar patch and layed down some actual real instrumentation.

Whammy bars and shit. All memes aside, he's a legend.

So here it is, finally. A track dedicated to the terrible UK summer weather of 2019. And to my neighbours, who are probably sick to death of hearing it over and over again.

NOW THEN.

Those who've been experiencing my "music" for some time (I know you're out there somewhere) may remember this from way back when - originally titled 'Blackjack Ice' (yes I've always been this bad at names)

T'was a simpler time, dear listener - mentally unburdened by the grind of adulthood, ignorant to the crushing realities that lay ahead. My young mind was free to flounder around and create as much art and music as it saw fit.

To varying degrees of success, I might add.

Blackjack Ice was always one of my favourites, and since learning a thing or two about production over the years (albeit not very much), it was ripe for a revisit. So at the decrepit age of 30 I hobbled up to the old girl, blew off the cobwebs and gave her a smack on the bottom-end with my zimmer frame.

She's still got some fight left in her! Enjoy!

Vantablack Ice

My attempt at a feel-good hit of the summer circa 1999, inspired by our resident avian DJ. Isolation with four birds is definitely not making me go insane.

In all seriousness, I've been forcing my way back into music production by learning some new shit in Reason - namely the Europa synthesiser. This is what happens when you capture your bird and use him as a wavetable 🐤 #BigHonkVibes

Since discovering KOAN Sound, I've been itching to get funkier than the standard Electro faire. So here's something a little Glitch Hoppy... with a clarinet. Because reasons.

It's less of a complete track and just a nice idea. Enjoy it all the same!

I accidentally whistled the My Neighbour Totoro theme in a minor key once, and it worked surprisingly well. And so, just in time for the spooktacular Halloween holiday, here's a rough and ready remix!

Ran out of time getting this one out the door (threw it together over 3 days) so I'll probably revisit next year.
