It is with a feverish excitement that we can finally announce the next EP in our catalog from our newest addition to the Second State family: Amelie Lens. Besides being quite a multi-talented virtuoso, the Belgian artist comes in hot and heavy for her debut release ‘Let It Go’ and with it showcases her prowess for dark, cutting-edge techno. Over the span of four tracks Lens takes us on a tour-de-force journey into the cerebral spaces of large, dark rooms and flashing strobe lights. Kicking things off is the hypnotically inducing 'Wild' with looping vocals laid over an ever increasing pressure of percussion and white noise. Much like the EP opener, 'Linger On' casts the same spell yet picks up the pace with racing snares and meteoric synth washes creating a deeply euphoric ride. The title track ’Let It Go' is up next and is by far the most 'cheeky' tune of the EP with a twisted acid line swirling around the constant begging of Lens’ voice encouraging you to "Let It Go, Let It Out". Rounding out the EP is 'The Finest Hour' and Lens wraps up her debut with the most psychedelic cut of the package. Low rumbling bass tones and spaced out pads over sparse drums leave lots of room for the imagination providing each listener to create their own journey to navigate. If this is Amelie Lens' debut with us, we expect a lot of very big things to come from the young Belgian and so should you. Welcome Amelie Lens!

THE CONCEPT BEHIND POLYMATH:

Every artist has their own perspective, imagination, style and inspirations. They share this with the world through their creations and performances, their own musical concepts. Each concept is unique, as is every performance.

Polymath can be defined as ‘many talents’. The Polymath concept will ask different artists to create pieces inspired by their perception of a singular theme. This concept gives artists the freedom to share their own visions on a given notion, to push and stretch their boundaries of creativity, and to present inspired tracks and artwork.

Each Polymath release is an experiment. It will include three different artists’ pieces inspired by the same theme. This is tied together with ornate artwork to complete the bespoke showpiece.

"Marc DePulse - Devotion" has been released on Polymath alongside the interpretations from Rafael Cerato and Mattia Pompeo.

1. Wie würdest du deine Biographie formulieren, die mit nur einem Satz auf alle 5 W Fragen (WER? WIE? WAS? WANN? WO?) eine Antwort für uns hat?  

Mein Künstlername ist Grace Thompson, ich bin Berlinerin (jedoch ursprünglich aus Mecklenburg Vorpommern) und spiele öffentlich seit 2013 quer durch die Genres Techno, Tech House und Minimal.

2. Wann & wo hattest du eigentlich dein erstes Mal? Ähm ja oder besser gefragt in welcher Situation, hast du das erste Mal wirklich bewusst an einem Mischpult gestanden?

2012 in dem Studio eines Kumpels.

3. Was genau haben deine Eltern dazu gesagt, als du ihnen gesagt hast, dass du ein DJ werden willst?

Meine Mutter hat total interessiert nachgefragt und verlauten lassen, dass sie mich gern mal live sehen möchte wenn ich irgendwo auflege.

4. Wie würdest du deine Musik charakterisieren?

Ich kann und mag mich nicht für ein Genre entscheiden. Ich mixe Techno, Tech House und Minimal da ich finde, dass diese sehr gut miteinander harmonieren können. Beschreiben würde ich meinen Stil als lebendig, kraftvoll und abwechslungsreich – alles außer monoton.

5. Wo hat für dich Musik ihre Grenzen?

Hat Musik Grenzen? Ich denke jeder definiert sich mit seiner eigenen Art von Musik die evtl. nicht immer nachvollziehbar für andere ist.
