Haruka returns to the Podcast series with a menacing second call to battle. This one’s a live recording of his closing set at Bassiani back in May, a seven-hour beast that had everyone breaking a sweat. The Japanese phenom is a master of mood, he builds elaborate compositions inch by inch, infusing his tympanic formulations with strange psychedelic effects and exuberant breaks. This RA Podcast is a celebration of all things Moodymann, and by extension, Detroit. The long-time DJ and producer Dez Andrés calls Moodymann his "big brother," and here pays tribute to the true expanse of Kenny Dixon Jr's music, from core house cuts to rambling funk jams to remixes of artists like Dua Lipa and Solomun, which really hammers home how important Moodymann is on dance music from across the world and across genres.

Andrés himself is also a legend. Active in Detroit since the '90s, he's a dance music Renaissance man, known for incredible hip-hop beats, disco and house, including massive hits like "New 4 U," one of the last decade's biggest dance music hits and RA's favourite track of 2012. His archive of records and mixes are essential listening for any house music or hip-hop fan, and he represents that distinct blend of influences and genres that defines Detroit—the same thing you can hear in this all-Moodymann mix.

An unexpected sequel, exploring the same records and moods as a previous recording in Beijing. This is taken from a recent show for Nurture x Liminal Dreams at The Observatory in Saigon. The plan had been a full spectrum set, but the energy did not feel right. Instead, I decided to play warm and comforting beats, focusing on my musical 'childhood', records from the late 90s - mid 00s. The mixing and presentation is meant to be gentle and relaxing. Enjoy.

Samhain XXIV at Tangent, Oct 26 in Detroit. Erika did a captivating under 120 bpm techno set to launch the night, Wata Igarashi was on directly after me, with Mike Servito following Wata and ultimately Scott Zacharias closing the 12 hour party. In the other room the Luv NRG Soundsystem raged as T4T did their thing. 

For this set I took the approach that at this time of year, in the Halloween time period, that feelings morph and change, how we feel about music on these nights is different, the context is altered. What is stern, scary, and stark can be very exciting at this time. What is warm and funky also takes a new shape and can be oh so freaky. I felt an impeding doom in the air and I wanted to channel that into solid sound system experience that was transformative and immersive. A sonic description of another world, the true power of techno. I am extremely excited about the shifting of eras happening within techno right now, and there was so much fresh music that fit the No Way Back concepts, but within a more pure techno language. I was also thinking of Mike Huckaby, who I worked with in the Record Time Dance Room, and his theories that a few amount of sounds makes a record the most powerful. There’s so many thrilling jams with only 4 sounds right now, this set gave me a special chance to explore that. 

Technically I used 4 CDJ-3000s and a Pioneer V10 and its internal effects with lots of layering with a new approach to mixing. If I’m doing something historic, it has to fit perfectly within the sonic context of what I’m playing, and for an older cut that can be very hard with today’s sonics, so I spend time remastering the older songs through my mixer and outboard equipment to give them a way to be played and allow them to glow within this new and living context. It’s all experimental at this point, a work in progress. The ones called QM are an older “quick master” technique that I did with software. Enjoy this journey to the other side.

On this compilation, Portuguese producer C4STRO folds Brazilian classics into the language of contemporary club culture. Drawing from icons like Jorge Ben Jor, Marisa Monte, Rita Lee, Seu Jorge and Toco, the Lisbon-based artist reimagines MPB, samba-rock and bossa nova through deep, groove-led frameworks that feel equally at home on the terrace at dusk or deep in the after-hours.

These aren’t maximalist flips—they’re subtle acts of translation. C4STRO lets the emotional weight of the originals breathe while stitching them into a pulse-driven continuum. Jorge Ben Jor’s Magnólia gains a hypnotic low-end shuffle; Rita Lee’s Cobra slithers with funk and bite; Seu Jorge’s Sábado à Noite drifts like a late summer breeze. With Ramirezz, Marisa Monte’s Eu Sei becomes almost spectral, her vocal suspended in dubby atmospherics. Closing on Toco’s Meu Rio, the compilation dissolves into sun-washed celebration, tying Lisbon’s Atlantic perspective back to Rio’s coastline.

What makes the record stand out is its restraint. Rather than forcing Brazilian music into a rigid club template, C4STRO allows for softness, space and saudade. It’s a reminder that remix culture isn’t only about energy—it’s about dialogue. In the crosscurrent between Lisbon and Brazil, these tracks find new resonance, carving out a space that is as much about memory as it is about movement.
