Architektin und Berliner Unikat Paula Hilton bleibt mit fetten Beats, pulsierenden Bässen und gefühlvollen Vocals stets nah am Herzen und fest im Kopf. Voller Emotionen und dem richtigen Gespür für tanzbare Tracks drückt sie damit jedem Set ihre ganz persönliche, ehrliche und unverkennbare Note auf. Paula Hiltons Leidenschaft entwickelte sich Genreübergreifend von Tech House über Bass House, bis hin zu Progressive House und Techno. Als Tochter gehörloser Eltern entsteht der Bezug zur Musik erst spät, jedoch umso intensiver. Statt Musik lediglich zu hören, steht das Fühlen und Spüren der Melodien seither für sie im Fokus. Paula Hilton fällt auf und ist als Unikat in der Welt der Träumer und Realisten gleichermaßen nicht mehr wegzudenken.

INTERVIEW:
1. Wie lange legst du nun schon auf und was hat dich (damals) dazu bewegt, anzufangen? Hattest du Support dabei, oder wie hast du das Auflegen gelernt?
Paula: Aufgrund eines sehr einschneidenden Schicksalsschlages und dem Verlust eines mir sehr nahe stehenden Familienmitgliedes im November 2017, fing ich an, mit dem Vestax DJ Controller eines Bekannten herumzuexperimentieren. Ich erkannte schnell, dass ich beim Auflegen und Mixen alles um mich herum vergessen konnte und fand so ein effektives und zugleich kreatives Mittel, mit der Trauer umzugehen und den schmerzhaften Verlust besser verarbeiten zu können. Der erste Gig vor Publikum erfolgte bereits kurze Zeit später, im Nhow Hotel Berlin. Das Feedback war so überwältigend, weshalb ich mich dazu entschlossen habe, meine Fähigkeiten weiter aus- und aufzubauen und mich mit professionellerem Equipment weiterzuentwickeln. Vor allem haben mir dabei – ganz klassisch – Youtube Tutorials geholfen, einen ersten groben Überblick zu erhalten und die Basics zu begreifen. Den Rest habe ich...

2. Was ist ein bisher unvergesslichste Moment beim Auflegen für dich gewesen?
Paula: Ganz klar; Mein erstes richtiges Event in einem „echten“ Club im Dezember 2019. Ich hatte wirklich großes Glück, dass das wunderbare Berliner Party- Kollektiv Kaffeeklatsch so an mich geglaubt hat und mir die Chance gab, den Main-Floor im Mensch Meier zu eröffnen – damals noch mit Rekordbox- Controller und Laptop. Nachdem der letzte Track meiner Playlist gespielt war und die Musik allmählich leiser wurde, hörte ich plötzlich, für mich völlig überraschend und unerwartet, dass die Leute klatschten und jubelten. Das ist und bleibt der für mich unvergesslichste Augenblick in meinem Leben, ein absoluter Gänsehaut-Moment! Besonders gefreut hat mich außerdem der Artikel von „Jeden Tag ein Set“, die meinen Podcast für die bezaubernde Crew von Beschäftigungstherapie gefeatured und auf ihrer SoundCloud Seite gereposted haben. Das fühlte sich fast so an wie ein...

 3.Was wünschst du dir, sollte in Zukunft in der Clubszene .anders laufen?
Paula: Mehr Frauen an die Decks!! Es klingt so einfach und doch scheint es in der Umsetzung so schwierig zu sein. Wenn eine Frauenquote in der Wirtschaft diskutiert wird, wieso dann nicht auch in der Kultur etablieren? Ein weiteres, ganz persönliches, Anliegen betrifft außerdem die Barrierefreiheit in Clubs oder auf Festivals. Leider fällt mir immer wieder auf, dass es für gehandicapte Menschen teilweise unmöglich ist, an einer berauschenden Party-Nacht teilzunehmen. Ohne Begleitung wäre das undenkbar. Da muss sich meiner Meinung ganz dringend etwas ändern! Und zu guter Letzt, natürlich auch im Eigeninteresse und nicht ganz uneigennützig, ein Appell an alle etablierten und exklusiven Clubs und Festivals da draußen: Auch mal unbekannten DJs und Performern eine Plattform geben, es lohnt sich! Versprochen ;)

Tony Dia ist nicht nur Djane sondern auch eine exzellente Produzentin, die mittlerweile ihr Zuhause in Regensburg gefunden hat. 1. Where do you get your inspiration from?
"I draw much of my inspiration from parties I play at. Suddenly I'll hear something that I really connect with. I don't care how old music is, either it affects me or not. There is so much good music out there. Some of it is old now, and people tend to forget a lot of that old music. Nowadays DJs play published tracks for only 2-3 weeks. In my opinion, this is really sad."

2. In which ways could the scene improve in the future?
"To improve our scene I would love to see DJs be brave again and not all being the same. I would love to see DJs thinking outside the box ot better yet, outside Beatport Top 50."

3. What makes you laugh?
"Sometimes you will see me laugh during a set. If you do, don't worry, I am just laughing about myself. It’s quite funny and it happens sometimes during my sets when I'm deeply focused. Being focused like that tends to take me into my own little realm, my favorite tunnel of a sort, in a different dimension."

4. Most profound insight you had since you started this career?
"There are 3 simple ways to achieve direct response on the dancefloor: Volume, tempo and pressure. I'm not the "simple way“ kind of guy 😁"

5. You in 11 years?
"I expect myself to spend a lot of time in the studio, but I really also hope I can keep on being able to play some cool gigs and festivals. I'm already to to old to die young."
