As a very young child (5 or 6 yrs of age) my mother taught my sister and I how to read sheet music prior to learning any musical instrument.
She would make/print out her own sheet music worksheets for us to learn. 

Immersing us in music was very important to her. Our weekend endevours were her taking us to the local university (UofA) to watch live musicals, opera's and orchestra concerts...it was all so fascinating and amazing opportunity to be exposed to all this music at such a young age. For a while there my mother even worked for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra which gave us free entrance into all the concerts which we frequented. 

Soon after she hired a piano/music theory instructor to come over to give us weekly lessons. Wanting to play violin by the age of 6, I quickly ditched the piano and began taking weekly violin lessons in Suzuki instruction for several years, and continued taking private lessons until i was 18. In middle school both my sister (an amazing Cellist) and i were fortunate enough to auditon and play in both the Tucson Youth Symphony and Kansas City Youth Symphony's...& during the summer's we were sent off to various music camps.  I basically grew up listening to classical music throughout my childhood.

It was in Tucson a fellow cellist (*Amber*...who i am eternally grateful for her introduction to the music scene) from youth symphony a few years our senior decided she wanted to take us to a "rave"...i was only a freshman in highschool at the time and this was my first experience to electronic dance music. I was immediately captivated by the sound and continued "raving" thru highschool and by the time I moved to KC,MO i decided i wanted to learn how to mix records. By then I pretty much stopped playing violin as I became obsessed with spinning records at the age of 17. I was very fortunate to be surrounded by people who supported my desire to learn and when i was in KC met my first DJ mentor/instructor (Tattoo artist and "junglist") Ugly Bill aka Special Technique who taught me how to beat match and mix records on his "tweaked" turntables (much harder than learning on regular tables, the pitch control is much more sensitive as they are tweaked to go from -18 to +18, i think???) He taught me how to mix house as well as D&B.  I started off playing trance/deep progressive house and techno and a few years later was recruited to play a couple events for the DeepConnections crew who soon founded DeepFix Records (i was their progressive house/trance buyer for a couple years before i moved to TX) and became influenced by their obsession for deep house music. Although i lean more towards the progressive side of house i stay very techy and sometimes get into the minimal side of things, and love playing techno slowed down to a house tempo. I just have a love for the deep, spacey, chunky beats of tech house...and although i like to listen to funky/disco/vocal house it's just not something i will ever play. I like to keep it dark and deep! 

This year [2010] i've started mixing my old records again since taking a 6 year hiatus from the scene. I went back to WMC for the first time since '02/'03 and am highly passionate about emmersing myself back into the music that was once a huge part of my life. It's just so insane how far technology has progressed since i dropped out of this music scene to pursue my career in health and fitness.....

So this one and only mix i have was recorded at DeepFix records the year before i left so i think it was recorded in 03. Unfortunately this is the only copy i had left and it was scratched so the last track cuts off right after it's mixed in...so sad cuz it's such a pretty song:(
