EN: Ninth part of our original Various Artists compilation series. The release of «Outlaw VA» is a large-scale exploration of groove, consisting of 16 tracks, where a complex, breathing rhythm and a melody at the core play equally.

Compilation has wide geography – tracks by musicians from Australia and Eastern Europe, Mexico, Germany, Holland, and faraway Siberia.

The tracks themselves are rich in atmospheric synthesizers and vintage samples, arranged in a 4x4 time signature. Dense, sometimes minimalist kicks, languid snares, and, of course, embellished and endlessly varied hi-hats.

Btw, this release also will be pressed in audio cassette format (IN PROGRESS - sorry for the delay) <3

RU: Девятый релиз из серии наших сборников Various Artists. Релиз «Outlaw VA» представляет из себя масштабное исследование грува, состоящее из 16 треков, где на равных выступают сложно организованный дышащий ритм и мелодия в основе всего.

Здесь есть треки от музыкантов из Австралии и Восточной Европы, Мексики, Германии, Голландии и далекой Сибири.

А в самих треках много атмосферных синтезаторов и винтажных семплов, упорядоченных в размерность 4х4. Плотный, а местами минималистичный кик, томные рабочие барабаны и, конечно же преукрашенные и бесконечно вариативные хай-хэты.

Кроме того, релиз будет напечатан на аудиокассетах (чуть позже – сейчас все немного обламывается с расходниками на производстве) <3

Hand crafted from field recordings, junk percussion and charity shop keyboards, TOP002 sees Scissorwork on wax for the first time.

With an uncompromising DIY approach to building tracks and attention to detail, he has distinguished himself from the crowd and gained real momentum since tracks started to appear online in early 2016.

The opening track 'Urges' sets the tone for the EP - a delicately constructed, feel-good thumper, dripping in tape saturation, fuzzy bass notes and off-kilter melodies. 'Sympathy' moves into heavier territory showcasing rusty, rolling bass tones, infectious grooves and a strong dose of nostalgia. 'Walking Home' takes things down a notch. Melancholic chords set to a backdrop of crunchy organic drums and a field recording captured at dusk in the city, that familiar feeling of walking home, still lucid, while the rest of the population is just emerging from their slumber towards the nearest coffee shop. Wrapping things up with help from fellow Bristol migrant Playboy Nolan is a dark, hazy 2-Step joint taking influences from elements of UK bass music, from early 90's to the present day.

PREMIERE: Scissorwork - Sympathy [The Other Planet]

At present, the sonic sea is awash with over-saturated kicks, pitched down broken hats and busted toms; typically cascading through a spooky pad sequence or some low quality YouTube rip of a Boyz II Men verse. Like any trend in music - people catch on - then every Tom, Dick n’ Harry cracks Ableton 9 on their Dads 2013 Dell laptop and start pumping their stuff into every corner of the sonisphere from their throne constructed from Man Utd bed sheets, fidget spinners and ambiguously used tissues...

Look, we like a miss-shaped and dishevelled house belter as much as the next man but - just like any other genre or sub-genre of music - there are of course “good” and “bad” attempts at production within a respective format. New boy, Helter’s 4 track “Polaris EP” on Beachy Head is an example of the “good” shit - and very good shit it is indeed.

“Die Waiting” opens up the EP with a bang. You’re hit fairly sharpish with a thudding kick, counterbalanced by a squelchy stab sequence - shortly-after kissed by the vocal sample which runs true throughout the track. Colourful pads and bass-heavy toms then bleed into the mix while the track constantly evolves in structure and ferocity. All-in-all, “Die Waiting” is an instant classic and has been exquisitely crafted from start to finish - one to fill almost any scenario with immeasurable hype.
