Solid Steel (18th October) This week's first hour is mixed and compiled by Tom Middleton with Richie Rundle & Joe Muggs, giving us The Sound Of The Cosmos. SOTC as a living movement began in earnest with a 1000-capacity tent at the Big Chill in 2011, where the legendary Tom Middleton hooked up with music journalist Joe Muggs and West Country acid house veteran Richie Rundle to put together a lineup that connected the new bass generation with the kind of celestial exploration that Tom has indulged with for over two decades now. This developed into more gigs and now a label which they showcase in this mix with music from Primitive Eskimo, Blacksmif, Sapience and Silkie, Distal & Mite from the forthcoming EP. This sits alongside a stellar cast including Vangelis, Pearson Sound, Moody Boyz and John Barry for a truly cosmic mix.

Solid Steel (9th January) DK is back for his first mix of 2015 and after a brief intro from Doug Carn, it's straight into a batch of forthcoming music from Glenn Astro & Max Graef, Dan Snake and Anthony Naples from his album coming out on Four Tet's Text label. It's another spin for the huge Roots by Romare and classic deep house from 1995 from Marc Kinchen and Chez Damier under his Andthoney alias. 
Mix of the Year winner Clap! Clap! is remixed by Lurka Obeah, followed by a host of giveaways from Seven Davis Jr, Alex Patchwork, Photay and the Hudson Mohawke remix of Four Tet. Then more new music with Soundbwoy Killah and Beat Spacek with a track from the Modern Streets album out in 2 weeks, plus there's always time for another Fela Kuti track.

In February of 2015, the iconic Seattle venue known as Re-Bar celebrated it's 25 year anniversary.  To commemorate the occasion, the longest running House music night in the United States known as Flammable brought in the auditory shaman from the Wicked Crew, Jenö to set the dancefloor afire like only he can.  The night was nothing short of magic. Here lies the recorded snapshot of that moment in time...


Innerflight and the Work crew are joining forces to bring back the legendary sounds of Jenö to Kremwerk this Friday April 15th, 2016. He'll be putting on a 3 hr seminar on how it's really done in the realm of House and beyond.  Joining Jenö will be an all-star local lineup featuring Brian Lyons, Xan Lucero, Chad Neiro, Patrick Hernandez, Ajax Aubry and Kadeejah Streets.

Innerflight Podcast 63: Jenö Live At Flammable

The James Lavelle CD was actually mixed by the Psychonauts, who were a little peeved to receive ZERO credit for one of the most technically accomplished mixes of it's time. If there were any doubters, the Psychonauts went on to re-record some of the mix combinations found here for their Essential Mix in '96... while James Lavelle went on to prove that he can't mix at all.
The track Clubbed to Death II only appears on this CD, and wasn't released anywhere else in any format unfortunately; it's probably the best of all the Clubbed To Death variations, and reason enough for owning this CD.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning.
