AZARIA : ACOUSTIC is a rare acoustic performance by Vancouver based hardcore/metal/reggae 3-piece NINJASPY, and was captured live at Nimbus Studios Vancouver (formerly The Farm Studios) in March 2015. We are proud to present this bonus video track from the upcoming record "SPUKEN" set for release 2016. This acoustic-folk arrangement of the otherwise high-energy spastic heavy version of "AZARIA" is inspired by a long tradition of campfire song singing and alternative melancholy side-projects. This performance and recording features some very talented musicians from Vancouver, and was especially made possible by Garth Richardson and Ben Kaplan.

the atrocities of war are many. but one of the most despicable atrocities is a warring government's manipulation of the civilian populace. The inspiration for Subarctic Trickery came first from a documentary I watched about the civil unrest in Sierra-Leone and the rampant conscription of children into guerilla armies. Boys as young as 8 were taken from their homes, their families often murdered and raped in front of them. They were forced to join guerilla forces, given weapons,  given drugs including cocaine to pacify them. They were often forced to kill their friends or commit rape to prove their commitment and to keep their lives. Young girls, while often raped and killed, were often taken as wives as young as 11 or less, to become subservient and sexually abused by men many years their elder. these facts are both horrifying and moving, but are not so extreme as to be a far cry from the actions of other regimes including those in power in North America.  Here governments simply use trickery instead of physical force. We are lied to in the media, foreign regimes are demonized, their images distorted. News headlines are modified to give misleading interpretations of foreign events. We are also in a sense, drugged by our ignorant, materialist society. Entertainment and distraction are a way of life here. We spend little time informing ourselves from reliable undistorted sources, leaving little or no resistance to questionable military actions by our governments because most of us are too busy with our toys to engage in anything real or to formulate valid opinions about world affairs. We are forced to support these wars, the manipulation falling short only of people being directly forced into combat. But given time and and a convenient series of world events, i do not doubt that our governments will find a way to fabricate or instigate cause for a war of such magnitude that conscription will eventually become reality.  We will be robbed of our freedom, manipulated, and we will descend into atrocity.  Unless we rise back up to reclaim all our moral inhibitions.  And this movement is growing stronger every day.





One other obvious example being the Nazi regime in Germany, using expertly calculated propaganda to convince most of the population of Germany that executing millions of people belonging to minority groups throughout Germany and in occupied countries was both right and just.  Similarly in North America, many people are convinced of the constructive aims of foreign military engagements.  Media manipulation and propaganda are as common here today as in Nazi Germany, if not more deviously subtle and dangerous. one of the hardest lessons we must all learn is how to let our loved one's go.  be it death, distance or dissolution that separates us.  grieving for loss is a time of erratic confusion.  but there is clarity in the idea that it is selfish of us to hold our emotions on so high a pedestal.  once one accepts the suffering that comes with loss, it is as if the darkness of grief is lifted, and the new day can dawn.  remember that those who are gone from our realm of form have entered the realm of the formless, and they are right where they need to be, as we should strive to be also, in life or death.
