Monstart is proud to present the label's twentieth release, which will be available November 24, 2023. This "Stepping Out" EP is the result of the collaboration of two French artists: Ouanounou - the head of the label - and Gipsyan - a talented producer from Montpellier.

With "Stepping Out" this original duo pays tribute to their common musical preferences, which are in the mood of the UK & US underground scenes - hard drums, juke, footwork - and global bass. The result is a body of work that is technical, heavy, percussive, yet extremely harmonious. A musical journey into the club world, from 130 to 160 BPM.

"Stepping Out" is a 10-track album by Ouanounou and Gipsyan. They have combined their science and studio approach to create a work that is made for the dancefloor.

After participating in an artistic residency last January, the two artists began a deep process of reflection and creation aimed at defining their perspective of club music in 2023.

The project was based on the idea of liberation and artistic self-affirmation. On the occasion of this 20th release, "Stepping Out" will also be available in a limited edition on vinyl, marking the label's very first physical release.

For me, it's a complete project drawing on the many influences that have shaped my artistic identity. It's an EP made for clubs and dancefloors, which required a lot of introspection and artistic bias to bring to life. I'm also very proud to have so many talented remixers on this release, who have taken the tracks beyond anything I could have imagined.”

En 2017, el sello discográfico Nervous Horizon, se aventuró más allá de las fronteras de Londres al unir fuerzas con la previamente desconocida DJ Missdevana de Holanda. Su EP debut, titulado 'Brass', fusionó polirritmos del clásico UK funky y la corriente underground holandesa llamada Bubbling. El EP desafió las estructuras convencionales de club, presentando pistas que mezclaban ritmos de Bubbling, muestras percusivas y elementos de dancehall. El tema "Lockdown" de Missdevana es una producción musical que fue creada en el contexto de la pandemia de COVID-19 en 2020. Este tema captura la atmósfera y el estado de ánimo de un mundo que cambió drásticamente debido al confinamiento y las restricciones impuestas para contener la propagación del virus. Además, "Lockdown" cuenta con un remix realizado por @elplvybxy , que aporta su propia interpretación manteniendo la esencia de la canción, mientras aporta su propio estilo a esta emotiva pieza musical.

I had the pleasure of playing a 4/20 house party on the angel date of 4/20/2024. Naturally, my game plan was to work in as many weed tracks as possible, and that means footwork. This mix is a re-recording of that set with a few changes here and there. 

As a teenager, I actually once burned a CD titled “420 mixtape” that was just “All I Do Is” (Smoke Trees) by DJ Manny repeated for the entire runtime of the disc. This was intended as a troll move but there was definitely more than one occasion when we put it on in my friend’s car and intentionally sat there and listened to the track on repeat. Vibes. RIP Rashad.
