Exploring his interest in the more measured, atmospheric side of electronic music, Movement presents his debut EP under a new alias, Agora. Whilst illustrating the influences of his roots in UKG and Breakbeat, Agora moves further from conventional dance music as the release progresses, finishing with the title track, Oranges & Lemons, an ode to a love of ambient. His most introspective release so far, Oranges & Lemons showcases a transition from the club ready dance space, to a sphere of home listening by the time of the closing track.

Banoffee Pies Records drop the 13th release in the original series. This VA entitled "Common Ground" is a crossover of influences from 4 artists with a selection of tracks all above 150bpm from producers of a similar generation giving a nod to their youth and early musical journeys, largely inspired by Drum & Bass and Jungle raves across the UK.

The release divided in two with a Dark A side and Light B side offering two moods of liquidity. The opening track "Class Of '92" comes from Leeds based Lisene, one half of the Space Cadets duo, with previous releases on Seven Hill Records and more. The A2 from Bristol based Hartta offers a more spooked bass heavy cut with "Hauntology".

The B side begins with title track "Common Ground", an ode to dusted jungle and liquid drum & bass from another Leeds head Sourpuss, known for running the Stretchy Dance Supply parties. The last track on the disc "Vapour" comes from Manchester's Interplanetary Criminal. With his UKG EP "Move Tools" on BP010 landing on the label and many dance floors at the end of 2019, this nostalgic drum scattered jungle cut stylishly closes off the compilation. Limited Press. "The long-awaited release from Big Hands is finally here - welcome to another journey down the 130BPM rabbit hole. Andrea Bonalumi AKA ‘Big Hands’ is a London based artist born in Monza, Italy and his palette of sounds coupled with the formula he uses to create his music is unlike any artist we have come across before. The tracks from this EP are inspired by early Acid and 90’s House with a twist. The result of chopping up vocals/breaks/percussions and the stylings of Big ‘Brain’ Hands has led to the creation of the ‘Smart Casual’ EP on Simply Deep.

The release starts with an experimental intro track ‘Karma’ that warms you up to the flavors that will follow - lingering Piano patterns ease up to the entrance of a panning bassy stab shortly followed by glitchy high-end notes layered on top. ‘Peruvian Fever’ starts off with swung percussion leading up to the first bass note, after a few seconds of the main groove hitting its clear this is already going to be a banger. The addictive percussions are soon met with processed Amen breaks near the end of bars to keep things interesting. Around the 2-minute mark cleverly sampled vocals place the cherry on top for this masterpiece of a track. 

‘Drone Dens’ takes a darker and more progressive route. The first half of the song is filled with eerie melodies setting the mood and building up tension to the main groove which drops after a long suspenseful percussion delay. The main section is a hypnotic array of drums and high octave bass patterns, leaving you wishing Drone Dens was just that tiny bit longer, a lot of repeat value. The EP rounds off with a killer remix of Peruvian Fever by Silent Motion bossman OldGold. He takes a stripped back approach to the remix bringing the sub-bass to the front of the project. He subtly takes small elements of the percussion to make his own rhythm to compliment the large bass stabs. The second half of the remix brings in ringing cowbells giving it a tribal feel before stripping the elements once back again for the outro.

After many years in the making we are pleased to present this masterful work of art from Big Hands. All the tracks featured minus the remix were unreleased gems from 2017, they all contain all the exact aesthetic we represent on Simply Deep and are glad to give them a home.  This will be an exclusive release to Junodownload & Spotify on 16/10/20 with general release two weeks later."

To celebrate five years of broadcasting, Bristol’s 1020 Radio is proudly releasing its second compilation, composed of exclusive tracks by its resident DJ’s and producers. As with the first edition, all proceeds will be donated to charity, this time being received by ‘Creative Youth Network’, an organisation which helps young people reach their potential and lead fulfilling lives.

Across twenty tracks split over two parts, the record explores the role of dance music within the omnipresent theme of night and day. Beginning with harmonious 2-step and ethereal percussion tools, the daytime section evokes balmy landscapes by marrying high definition sonics with the uplifting musical heritage of the Caribbean.

Night falls, and the record descends into the depths of sub-aquatic techno and cerebral bass music. Here, abstract sound design conjures images of dark, cavernous spaces, where biomechanical rhythms are used to echolocate low lit basements, priming you for last-dance manoeuvres in brave new worlds.

More than ever, UK dance music must reflect on itself in order to move forward. Through this compilation and it’s studio community, 1020 sews together the cultural threads of its contributors into a vast sonic patchwork, demonstrating Bristol’s tradition of bold hybridity, whilst musing on it’s bright future.
