Hailing originally from Singapore, Dean has cut his teeth in the scene for over 20 years, having played the likes of We Out Here and Dimensions Festival and supported artists like Pearson Sound, Mike Huckaby, Fourtet, Gerd Janson and Dreamcast Moe.

Trushmix 238 presents Sanctuary in the mix!
After their move from Australia, Sanctuary have been immersed in the Berlin scene for close to a decade, co-hosting the former Altered Soul Experiment nights and founding their label, Life Classics. The label started as a home for their edits, then later branched out into a mix series and club residency at OHM.

For Trushmix they made a one hour and forty minutes mix. House, deep tech and late 90´s top early 00´s on the menu. Loaded with firm favourites and a number of tunes we've been bumping in the clubs over the last few months. This one hits like a warm breeze so turn up the dial and roll off into the sunset.

Trushmix 238 - Sanctuary

DJ, Producer and Founder of the "Snickars Records" vinyl record shop est 1995. Born and raised in a Northern suburb of Stockholm, Sweden. 

Started DJing in 3rd grade at School Discos and community youth centers. Early influences were dad's Jazz record collection, his older sisters reggae and disco cassettes and local radio shows like Brother Memos "Funk Department", Rinkeby International, FMAK, Disco 91 to name a few.

Mika is a true orange wine enthusiast and fell in love with the wine style when he had a DJ gig in Tbilisi in 2014 and got introduced to the world of orange wine for the 
first time. On the 26th of April he honoured our festival in Stockholm with this one hour of pure magic.

Q: How did you prepare for this mix, and how would you describe the result? 

I’ve been meditating a lot. Haha, no, honestly, my little girl loves to play with the levers on my sound card, so the recording part has become a bit more time-consuming and nerve-wracking. Other than that, it’s the usual. I have a box where I keep the new records I want to use. I start with those to see what direction they want to take me, and add a few older favorites where they might fit. 



Q: Is there a record in the mix that you associate with a special story?

I have quite a few records here that I’ve found while traveling over the last few years. Some from my visits to Sweden and Denmark and four or five from our last visit to Argentina. The rest of the family was sick with the flu at the beginning of our time in Buenos Aires, so I had more time than expected to visit record stores in and around the city. Knowing where I found a record or who recommended it to me is always a nice memory, and it remains with most of my records even after 30 years. 



Q: How do you dig for old/new music/records?

Well, most of it is online these days, but I still love to go out diggin or swap with friends. These days I rarely have the time to go to record stores, flea markets or second-hand stores, but it’s all the more fun. Diggin used to be much more dependent on whether I found something nice or not, now I can just keep going for the fun of it. 



Q: One record that doesn’t want to leave your turntable lately?

I try not to play my favorite record(s) non-stop like I used to, but rather as a reward after a long day or when I need to cheer myself up. It’s usually hard for me to choose one, but lately it’s been “pursuit of color” I’d say. It took me more than fifteen years to find a copy and when I finally did, I had almost forgotten how much I loved it.  



Q: Music bonds people. Any djs/projects/etc.. you would like to shout out? 

Big up to all my friends here in Zürich: the hum‘ crew M&M, Oli, phantom island massiv Tobi, Ron, Lexx, my Kern buddies, Fabi for keeping it real and all the good laughs, Nick and the whole crew, Alex and Sacha and everyone involved, missing it, Buzz for never stopping, Synths of World for the good energy, much love, CocoFresco, looking forward. Music For Heatwave II

Dea Barandana is an artist we are thrilled to see make the step from his local scene towards the international circuit. Originally from Jakarta, where he started out mixing records for a local breakdance crew, he was eventually throwing warehouse parties before ending up one island further, on Bali, where he’s a familiar face at Potato Head Beach Club and Studio Eksotika.

This mix he did for us lays out his talent for weaving together unfound rarities from then and now, connecting dots between different musical tropes of the Asian diaspora. The result is a meandering journey across forgotten recordstores and dusty crates, reminiscent of island life and the smell of kretek, to modern club music and back. 

Starting off like a warm breeze, the mix quickly gears up to grooving disco and bright Asian synthpop. Further down the 100-minute trip, the journey spirals from its effervescent moods down into darker, more spiritual affairs, with compelling percussion and sturdier basslines — just before locking down with laidback, dreamlike endnote to seal it off.
