The rebirth of Live At The Matterhorn the 2001 album that captured the essence of Fat Freddy’s Drop jam origins. Finally available on heavyweight vinyl. The new limited edition 2LP 180gm vinyl features a track per side ‘Runnin’, ‘Rain’, ‘No Parking’ and ‘Bounce’ spanning a total of 70 minutes. Mastered by Calyx Studio, Berlin.

Originally released on CD in 2001, the recording was made when Freddys was honing its sound and chops in the Wellington underground music scene, and taken from a mini disc feed from the desk.
The stage was literally the back garden of Wellington’s den of iniquity The Matterhorn just down the road from Ghuznee HQ. The audience consisted of a random collection of 30 people most of whom from memory were hospitality workers having a drink after work. Legend.
Having started as a few musician mates playing along to instrumental B-side records dropped by DJ MU aka Fitchie, by 2001 Freddys was a solid six piece who liked nothing better than to jam. Freddys distinctive hi-tek soul qualities shine through led by the velvet vocals of singer Joe Dukie aka Dallas Tamaira. It’s Fulla Flash aka Warren Maxwell on saxophone, the fore runner to Chopper Reeds. Trombonist Hopepa aka Joe Lindsay is yet to join the band.

‘Live At The Matterhorn’ went on to sell Platinum in New Zealand and while it pre-dates the bands record breaking ‘Based On A True Story’ studio album it's a touchstone for those wanting to experience Freddys early jams, the source for where Freddys story began.

Improvised sessions on Mimas

Composed to celebrate what would have been the hundredth birthday of avant-garde pioneer John Cage, this work pays homage to the ideas and philosophies embodied in his music and his words. Cage was famed for integrating non-traditional instruments into his work and for coaxing unconventional sounds from traditional ones; accordingly, Lizée—herself noted for incorporating turntables and other electronic devices into the concert-music setting—here makes extensive use of various objets trouvés (including typewriters and vinyl records on portable turntables struck with mallets) as percussion instruments, regardless of their original purpose.

 The idea of “preparing” instruments, one of Cage’s most significant contributions to modern music, is reflected here in alterations made to the surfaces of vinyl records, generating new patterns and melodies by creating new paths for the stylus. Lizée has described this piece as a kind of dance party for Cage: “a re-imagining of a rave.”

This work was premiered on March 2, 2012 at the 'So Percussion' concert presented at Koerner Hall in Toronto (Canada).
