Kick Drums is Kyle Watson's first release on his new label No Context, and it's one of those records that blows up the DM's after it gets teased. He's dug deep into his satchel of saturated sounds and crafted possibly the biggest foghorn hit this side of the Atlantic. Pair that with a simple vocal repeat and a pulsing kick drum pattern that answers the call, and you've got yourself a club weapon right there.

This is just the beginning.

Cued up for the second release on the new imprint No Context is this spicy number from Kyle Watson featuring London-based South African-based artist Evida.

There's a story behind this one. Originally written as part of a separate project, Lost went through eight (yes, eight) previous versions. Rewritten so many times that Kyle apparently started humming it in his sleep, Lost is the perfect example of why you should never give up on those older projects.

Fully embracing the 'works at home as well as in the club' ethos of No Context, Lost is a crossover record anchored around an attention-grabbing fluttering synth. Tight writing and vocal delivery from Evida only elevates the record and is the icing on an already sweet cake. This one feels like an evolution in Kyle's sound, and personally we love to hear it.

Kyle Watson returns for his third No Context release, and this one’s built to catch you off guard. He kicks off the EP with See Your Truth, a track he debuted at Coachella this year. It’s sub-driven and energetic, and if you turn it up enough you might catch a desert suntan through your speakers.

But as soon as you hit play on the B-side you realise everything’s been flipped on its head. Suddenly, we’re in a hypnotic swirl of intergalactic pads, textured pianos, and ethereal vocals at a tempo we didn’t expect to hear from Kyle. The only thing keeping us from floating into the clouds is the familiar anchor of a Watson bassline.

Where do we go from here? Wherever we want to.

When Simenga subbed to Kyle’s Patreon page over a year ago, Kyle knew he was one to keep a beady eye on (not in a creepy, weird way).

Born in Greece and calling Germany his home, Simenga is a wizard of warm drums and a certified wrangler of hefty basslines. Both records on this EP showcase his strengths on both fronts, keeping the energy sky-high while perfectly moulding rolling basslines with industrial percussion, big drums and complex rhythms.

Signing our first external artist to No Context was never going to be easy, but these records from Simenga set the perfect precedent and we’re gassed to have him.

It's tough creating that high energy in a record using only a few elements, yet Des & Del have nailed it with Next Question.
 
Fresh on the scene, these two best friends from Miami are stamping their mark on the house space with grooves so chunky they barely fit through your ear canals. Next Question is a perfect example of the 'less is more' approach, a raw track driven by a percussive sub bassline and punctuated with a lead stab that throws back to the days of the TB303. Pepper in some airy vocal snips and you've got yourself a dance floor belter.

Keep an eye on these two, we think they'll be pulling some big moves over the next few years.

US-based duo Local Singles have nailed their slant on rolling tech house with a record propelled relentlessly by tribal percussion, rhythmic vocal loops and a rolling sub line. Dotted with dark bass stabs that have more elasticity than your favourite joggers, this track is straight up hypnotic and we can see it slotting into house sets right across the spectrum.
