what a beauty! gorgeously evocative. i would love to have been present at the installation. but it's almost as good to imagine it!

DELAY

This is the first part of a large commission i recently received. Eventually it will be two 30 minute sound pieces installed in two rooms in an historic cottage on Hobarts Eastern shore. The music is about the life of Neil Davis - A Tasmanian born war reporter and camera man. Davis was the only journalist to film behind the lines of both opposing forces in the Vietnam War. He died in Thailand in the 1980's capturing his own death on film. He spent much of his life living in Asia helping the victims of war. Growing up in Rural Tasmania he was an expert horse rider, professional football player and a heavy drinker, gambler and party animal. The works will be accompanied by still and moving images and during the Clarence Jazz festival each night a local muso will improvise against both pieces simultaneously. Should be fun and noisy! This first section is about his early days on the farm just out of Hobart. Big Thanks to Anita Hustas and Phil Bywater for the Double Bass and Tenor Saxophone.
