Observer Presents: Luciano Esse

Luciano Esse is a prominent figure in the Italian electronic music scene, with over twenty years of experience in clubs. He began DJing in the early '90s and moved to London in 2000, where he performed at some of the city’s top venues such as Fabric, The End, and The Egg. Upon returning to Italy, he became a resident at The Flame Music Department in Milan and took part in the renowned We Love Sundays parties at Space Ibiza in 2006 and 2007. Following gigs at clubs like Clorophilla, Cromie, and Guendalina, he spent nine years as a resident at Sound Department in Taranto. He has shared the decks with international artists such as Richie Hawtin, Villalobos, Jeff Mills, and Sven Väth. As a producer, he has released music on major labels like Life & Death, Tenax, and Trapez. His sets, which range from house to techno, reflect deep expertise and a genuine passion for electronic music.

Kyntral is a co-founder of the Argentinian label Danza Nativa and he serves up a deeply immersive trip here. 'Inner Depths' is liquid deep techno in the mould of Neel or Donato Dozzy. Percolating rhythms and dubby undercurrents subsume mind and body while deft little details place you underwater. 'Bloodstone' is a little more lumpy with gentle smattering of percussion of drums that bump. 'Ancient Apparition' is a spacious sound with wispy pads disappearing to infinity, glassy tinkles and undulating drums all getting you into a meditative state. The Patrick Russell Phantom remix is more warped and dark to add a nice counterpoint.
