The "freshest" track of the whole album. The first draft of the song was made sometime 2016, but once Péter and Gergő jumped aboard the album making process, they expanded the overall sonic quality of the song.

Bathing In The Moonlight

I wrote this song after getting out of a rather terrible relationship back in 2016. The general middle eastern tone came out of nowhere, perhaps it was inspired by my ex, since she was from that area. On the demo version I sang the lyrics, but as time progressed I got the idea that a female voice would have a greater impact on the song as a whole. Eventually I found the right person in Dalma Puskás of Agavoid fame for the job. I knew before that she had this Massive Attack-ish style in her band and I thought it would fit perfectly for this song. So in two afternoons, we recorded the vocals in Keleti Blokk.

Eastern Sugah' [ft. Dalma Puskas]

We made this song with my old time good friend Emil Chalhoub a.k.a. M Æ T R I C S, not long after my earlier EP "Lounge Act" was made, back in 2015. Once it was done however, it was set aside only to be rediscovered in 2017, when Péter added bass, additional guitar and noise tracks, thus ending up with this final version.

Metrics

This is the oldest track out of the whole bunch. This was made right after my first album "English Garden" was out back in 2013. I was experimenting a lot with Frusciante styled reverse multi tracked guitars back then. I found the lyrics rather childish and teenage angst-y so I decided to put it on the backburner. As time progressed however, I still liked the guitar riffs I played on it, and when I showed the song to Péter he saw potential in it. Once he added some more instruments to the mix, the song was complete.

Moment Of Truth

One of my most beloved songs, Morning Coffee got a little facelift, by adding additional Saxophone provided by my uni classmate Balázs Mórász. The actual saxophone recordings took place back in 2017, the same time as for Acapulco. Péter added bass and kalimba for that more "Lounge"-y touch.

This track is a rework of my original track of the same name from my previous output, "The Waiting Room". Since that track was very piano-centric, I knew I wanted to have a more stripped down version of this song. After some thinking how this could be done, I remembered I knew a classmate from university who played the Harpsichord. I found the idea fascinating to have an electronic track reworked on a 14-15th century instrument. Special thanks to Adrienn, since this rendition would not exist without her contribution.

Post Rain (Harpsichord Ed)

This song was a remix idea of the original song "Lounge Act" we made with Joanpot back in 2015. The initial remix was very bare with just a 808 bassdrum track and some sampled guitars. When we sat down with Péter to work on the song, he added Rhodes piano, a lot more drums and ambiance.

And now for something different...
2019 marks a slightly different direction in the music world of No Whales. I decided that after so many years cascading through electronica and synths, it was time to dial it back a little and reach back to a more simpler time of my music making to the instrument that started it all: the guitar. First single of an upcoming release that is focused more on acoustic and electric guitars and more down-to-earth instrumentation. Clip available on YT.
