Bad news in the social media era

👋 Today I’m speaking on Kyrie Irving and his recent suspension by the Nets. He’s been suspended for sharing a link to a documentary on Amazon prime that has anti-semitic talking points and holocaust denial as well as claims about the origins of black people. Don’t bother checking for it, it’s $50 😂 

I try to approach this topic with some sensitivity and nuance. If white people can do ancestry tests that say they’re partly from African nations, why can’t a black man in the US believe his ancestors were Hebrew Israelites?

In the spirit of the podcast, I decided this week to go completely off the map and have a discussion about an individual who is probably not well known to people outside the African continent. 
I’m a huge fan of Fela Kuti, and I figured I’d let people get to know me a bit better through expressing my respect and admiration for his music and social activism. 
Fela inspired the young people of Nigeria in the 70s and 80s to question the system of military rule and injustice in the country. 
Joining me is Nissi, a young recording artist who is immensely inspired by Fela’s work, also being the granddaughter of his first manager. As usual you can listen on Itunes Podcasts or soundcloud. 
I apologise for the distorted sound this week, the wind was intense the day we recorded, and it led to a lot of technical issues. I’m still trying to figure this podcast stuff out so bear with me.
